Mexico, apparently, views sovereignty as a one-way street. American assistance in fighting narco-terrorism is out of the question, but arguing in the Supreme Court that US gun rights must comport with Mexican “norms” is just fine.
None of this is new to the firearm industry. For decades, it’s been caught in that ongoing tension between those who write the laws, those who enforce the laws, and those who decide if those laws are aligned with the U.S. Constitution.
The bill is simple in principle: Texans have the right to defend themselves. If a business takes that right away, it better ensure their safety—or face the legal consequences.
Call them Red Flag gun confiscation orders, or Extreme Risk Protection orders or just a plain old Order of Protection. Regardless of the name, if police show up out of the blue with one of those orders against you to take your guns, what should you do? Think about it now to help you minimize the disruption to your life and to keep your options open.
This case affords an opportunity to begin addressing where arms may be carried. And the Court should, in an appropriate case, also provide a framework for evaluating what types of arms people may possess.
