SHOT Show 2025: FN Reflex XL MRD

FN Reflex XL MRD

It’s a must to have the “right” carry gun, and if you’re a gun maker, that often means tweaking an existing platform. Such is the case of the FN Reflex XL MRD. This is a little pistol that’s really not so little, and it definitely has the features most of us want when we’re looking for a carry gun. After all, finding the right gun for daily carry is a lot like being the Gun Goldilocks–you have to try a lot of them and hope to find one that’s just right. The Reflex MRD has a lot of the right things going for it.

First, it’s not a striker-fired gun. The Reflex is an internal hammer-fired single-action-only pistol which means it has a trigger that’s far better than any striker-fired gun you’re likely to want to carry.

The FN Reflex XL MRD is chambered in 9mm and is described by FN as a micro compact. That said, it’s an upsized version of the original Reflex. In this case, it means the gun has a 3.8-inch barrel — a half inch longer than the original — and packs 15+1 rounds in its flush magazine (18+1 with the extended mag). This isn’t a teensy tiny gun, but it’s slim enough to make it very easier to conceal.

Something that’s nice about this gun is that it’s optics ready with Shield RMSc or Holosun 507K footprints. Don’t like red dots? Well, the Reflex XL MRD ships with a tritium front night sight with an orange ring and a blacked out, squared rear sight. Those factory irons are pretty nice on their own, making this very shootable right out of the box. Angled serrations are cut into the slide at both the front and back with the rear serrations being a bit narrower. There’s also an accessory rail in front of the trigger guard so you can throw a light on it if you’re so inclined.

If you’re wondering about fit, we have some good news. The FN Reflex XL MRD ships with interchangeable backstraps so you can adjust the palm swell to better fit your hands. Grip panels are nicely textured and front and backstraps are checkered. Also, the trigger guard is slightly undercut and there’s an extended beavertail, all to encourage a good, high grip.

You can get the Reflex XL MRD in either FDE or basic black. It ships with one 15-round and one 18-round extended magazine. There’s a 10-round option, too, for those of you in restricted states.
