Zero Bail Follies: AR-Toting Suspect With Six Outstanding Warrants Charged After Friendly-Fire Killing of Chicago Cop

Fallen Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera (Image via CPD)

What happens if you blow off your court date in the “no cash bail” State of Illinois? The judge asks the clerk of the court to send you a postcard to remind you of your next court date. Adrian Rucker, 25, got a lot of those cards and had managed to accrue not one, two, or even three warrants after blowing off multiple court appearances. Over the period of one year he had racked up six outstanding warrants before he confronted police with an AR pistol.

Now, before you say ‘But that’s impossible!’ given Illinois’ strict laws against purchasing and owning unregistered regulated semi-auto firearms, not to mention bans on possessing firearms without a Firearms Owners ID Card, and the laws that supposedly block people with domestic violence issues from possessing guns, here’s a newsflash: none of those laws apply to criminals. The same goes for pointing guns at police.

Tragically, the confrontation resulted in the death of Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera. While Rucker didn’t fire the shot that killed her, he’s going to take the ride thanks to Cook County’s new prosecutor that replaced the Team Soros seat-occupier during the last election thanks, in part, to the felony murder rule.

From CWB Chicago:

The man who confronted fallen Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera and other officers with a rifle inside a Chatham apartment had six active arrest warrants, including one for a felony in Cook County, according to the Chicago Police Department and court records.

Adrian Rucker, 25, is not accused of firing any shots during the confrontation but faces four felony charges, including gun- and narcotics-related offenses.

On Thursday night, Rivera and other tactical team officers were pursuing a man suspected of carrying a firearm when he fled into an apartment in the 8200 block of South Drexel, police said. Upon entering the apartment, officers encountered a second man, allegedly Rucker, who pointed a rifle at them. During this encounter, another officer fired a shot, striking Rivera in the back, according to CPD. She died shortly afterward from the gunshot wound.

The man with the rifle and the original suspect fled through the back of the apartment. Police detained several suspects, including Rucker, who was apprehended in the 8200 block of South Maryland, according to CPD. He is the only individual currently facing charges in the case.

Rucker is charged with armed violence, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a fraudulent identification card. Armed violence can be charged when an individual is accused of possessing both a firearm and narcotics simultaneously. Rucker will appear for a detention hearing on Sunday afternoon.

He should have been in jail. Instead he was roaming the streets.

Court records indicate Rucker failed to appear in court on an identity theft charge on June 5, 2024, exactly one year before Rivera’s shooting. Judge Ellen Mandeltort ordered her clerk to send Rucker a postcard reminder of his court obligations, but he did not comply.

Officer Rivera leaves behind a young daughter. Former mayoral candidate Paul Vallas chimed in with a scathing rebuke of a Chicago’s failed criminal justice system. Read the whole thing.

For those who struggle with X, here’s what Vallas wrote . . .

According to the Chicago Tribune, the person arrested in the tragic death of Officer Krystal Rivera allegedly pointed a rifle at Officer Rivera and other officers during a pursuit, which led to the incident that tragically led to her death.

Rucker had 6 WARRANTS and a revoked FOID card due to domestic battery charges. He had an arrest warrant with Cook County since July of 2024. Why didn’t the Sheriff make this arrest?

This is the public safety crisis former Clerk of the Courts Iris Martinez warned county leaders like Toni Preckwinkle about as Sheriff Tom Dart has let almost 40,000 warrants go unserved!

These warrants put CPD officers lives in grave danger, who come across these individuals at traffic or investigatory stops and do not know the person they are approaching has an arrest warrant.

CBS Chicago reports that the Sheriffs office has let 75% of orders of protection go unserved. Has any reporter asked why he does not serve the warrants and orders of protection?

How many lives of victims of violence and first responders do we have to lose before the leaders at Cook County will do their jobs?

Chicago’s new prosecutor, Eileen O’Neill Burke, actually currently has a law license unlike the former Soros prosecutor Kim Foxx who she replaced after two failed terms in office. Well…failed if your goal is to make Chicago a safer community.

Tragedy that wouldn’t have happened without craptastic schools, the ghetto lifestyle and most importantly the soft-on-crime liberal policies by the Democrats who run IL.

The turd who pointed his gun at cops was never going to be anything but a blight on society. Rivera by contrast was a decent, productive member of society. It is a shame we don’t have public hangings anymore

“Sheriff Tom Dart has let almost 40,000 warrants go unserved!”

    almost 40,000!

I looked at his web page (https://sherifftomdart.com/home/).

    It says this:

Show Your Support for Tom Dart
“Years ago, we set out on a journey together to change people’s perceptions of how government works. Through hard work and determination, we have taken tremendous steps toward doing just that. Now, I’m asking for your help to continue the journey. ”

almost 40,000 warrants go unserved… so lets see… and just who is this ‘we’?

    1. “we set out on a journey together to change people’s perceptions of how government works.”

Yep, ya showed them Tom – how ‘government’ works is by you not doing your job. You had just one job, enforce the law but … almost 40,000 warrants go unserved.

    2. “Through hard work and determination, we have taken tremendous steps toward doing just that.”

Yep, ya showed them Tom…”Through hard work and determination, we have taken tremendous steps toward doing just that” by making Chicago more unsafe and more crime ridden. You had just one job, enforce the law but … almost 40,000 warrants go unserved. Evidently Tom you worked really hard at not doing your job and took “tremendous steps toward doing just that” to not do your job.

    3. And just who is the “we” you refer to Tom?

Almost 40,000 warrants go unserved. Evidently the ‘we’ to which you refer is the criminal. So lets put your web page in some context …

“Years ago, I and criminals set out on a journey together to change people’s perceptions of how government works and those people are more unsafe now. Through hard work and determination, I and criminals have taken tremendous steps toward doing just that. Now, I’m asking for your help to continue the journey by ignoring that you are in one of the most unsafe areas in the country with us left-wingers running things, and help you will you stupid fools because you will continue to vote for me and other left wingers. “

    1. he provides jobs to media adjacent groups in return for misleading and deceptive news coverage.
and pizza parties for ray pists.

  3. Democrat run cities: “we need to restrict people’s rights to make the streets safe”

Also Democrat run cities: “leave people to have fun watching cars burn, 6 warrants is no reason for bail, how dare the fed arrest these good pedos, rapists and thieves”

All blue city first responders should quit. Unless you’re a lifter taking in six figures with OT to pad your pension you aren’t being paid much, you’re being overworked, disrespected and everyday your efforts are thwarted all while risking injury and death.

Leave these cities to burn in degenerate anarchy. It’s what they want.

There are plenty of available positions in quieter and cleaner places.

    1. Dems blatantly lie about everything. They know their constituents are brainwashed.

As they continue to go off the deep end into crazy town, some of their followers are bound to notice what’s happening.

      CNN’s Harry Enten today:

When asked which party are you closest to or trust more on immigration, Enten said, Democrats had a 32-point lead on this issue in 2020, and “immigrant voters were in the Democratic camp.”

But when you “jump forward to 2024, 2025 — look at that shift,” he continued. “A 40-point shift to the right among immigrant voters! Republicans now lead on this issue by eight points over Democrats, more so than any other group that I could find.”

  4. marxist-democrats, in Chicago and elsewhere have discovered that they can get elected & reelected whether they manage municipalities competently or not at all. Competency isn’t an issue where marxist-democrats enjoy an elective majority. marxist-dems will vote ANYTHING but Republican and blame Republicans for not going along when things crash hard.

Most media tend to vote marxist-democrat as well so, it’s up to voters to get a clue. The in-power marxists have their reward, elective office in perpetuity. The criminals? They cost money. The marxist-dems would rather ring the cash register fining the taxpayers for violating local ordinances. THAT’s where the money is.

    1. Yep. There’s a reason they reward a victim mentality. They have to pretend to fight for civil rights and handouts. Why else would anyone vote for them (unless you’re connected $$ – see Puppet Admin tossing out billions before Trump was sworn in).

  5. I completely agree with the gist of this article, but who the heck trains these cops? Someone points a gun at a fellow cop so you shoot the the cop in the back?

    WTFO?

“This is the Police, put down the gun and raise your hands or I’ll shoot a cop and you’ll be charged for it.”

I guess that’s one way to get Chicago’s prosecutors to put a criminal in jail.

    Maybe.
