For daylight shooting there’s no contest, I greatly prefer a reticle illuminated green over a red one. It’s closer to the “peak wavelength” perceived by human eyes, making a green dot far more visible, faster to acquire, easier on the eye (less fatigue/strain), and typically less distorted for people with astigmatism vs. a red dot. Hands-down superior from a performance standpoint, green LED-powered optics have nonetheless remained less common than red ones for two reasons: they’re more expensive and they use significantly more energy. BUT . . .
ZeroTech Optics has cracked those nuts with their new Thrive HD multi reticle green dot reflex sight, which I got my hands on last week. It’s competitively-priced with similar reflex optics and it boasts a 50,000-hour battery life and a truly unlimited lifetime warranty. On top of that, it’s equipped with Shake-Awake tech and three different reticles to choose from! Not too shabby.
I threw this bad boy on my suppressed FK BRNO PSD chambered in the extremely hot (think 95 grain bullet at 2,000 FPS) 7.5 FK round. Needless to say, this pistol kicks hard and has a violently high slide speed. It ain’t easy on optics. The new Thrive HD here did just fine, which was expected as the previous optic that graced this slide for the last year-and-a-half was also a ZeroTech that has held up great.
A “full size” micro reflex optic, the Thrive HD green dot employs an RMR-compatible mounting footprint and comes with screws and tools for installation.
Also included is a low height Picatinny rail mount, which is great for nearly everything that isn’t an AR. Risers are available if you need your optic higher.
My favorite features, aside from the green illumination, are the side-loading battery tray so the optic doesn’t have to be removed from the firearm in order to swap the battery, the shake-awake functionality, and the ability to switch between three reticles.

I’m happy with my Holosun HE510C-GR on rifle, and the Holosun HE507K-GR X2 on pistol.
I tried a Thrive HD on rifle, and its a nice sight but I like the HE510C-GR more on rifle as the reticle seems more ‘crisp’ and ‘brighter’ than the Thrive HD.
