Like the US, Mexico’s constitution grants citizens the right to bear arms. But unike the US, that right comes with a long list of restrictions. There’s only one gun store in Mexico, in the middle of a heavily guarded military base in Mexico City.
We were allowed in. But before customers can enter, they have to show proof they’ve passed psychological tests, drug screens, and extensive background checks. The store sells about a thousand guns a month, mostly shotguns, small caliber rifles, and handguns.
What civilians can’t buy here are the weapons the cartel favors. Those are not legally sold anywhere in Mexico.

I assume the cartel gets their weapons from lax Indiana.
The video said belt-fed, we can’t buy new belt-fed ‘weapons of war’ until the select-fire registry gets re-opened…
I reflexively blame Indiana for everything as a way to poke fun of lying Democrats that blame Chicago gang violence on lax Indiana gun laws.
😉
No. The 60 minutes people found a way to limit guns sales, to only wealthy and politically connected white people.
That they do agree with.
Fixed the headline for you.
“Like the U.S., Mexico’s constitution grants citizens the right to bear arms…. but unlike the U.S., that right comes with a long list of restrictions.”
They have it backwards again. Our Constitution is the result of the people granting powers to our government, with exceptions. The exceptions happen to include the right of the people to keep and bear arms, outside any government restrictions. The people at 60 Minutes know this, but it doesn’t fit their polemic, and there is no public discussion of this article at their website.
Mexico. Where the cartels have veritable armies, the Federal government has an army, the local police are all armed, and the citizens have no way to defend themselves.
Mexico is a libertarian paradise, where the drug laws are not enforced.
