It’s been a tough holiday season so far for Chicago’s rap stars. First we lost the incredibly talented Glizzy the Tweaker who was shot graveyard dead by an intended armed robbery victim with a carry license. Now we learn that another aspiring scholar, this one named 4 Block Lil Mari, has been shot by another concealed carrier who’d been targeted.
What’s in the water in Chicago? Especially with a relative paucity of licensed CCW holders in the Windy City given the Land of Lincoln’s criminal-friendly gun control laws. These gang member rappers must either be incredibly unlucky… or are just prolific armed robbers.
In the 17-year-old 4 Block’s case, his luck ran out when he and three compatriots tried to carjack a woman in the South Shore neighborhood. In a nutshell, 4 Block shot her when she resisted. That’s when she did the only polite thing she could…she shot him back, taking him out of the fight. Nice shooting, sister.
Would it surprise you to learn that 4 Block was out on pre-trial release under Illinois’ No Cash Bail law for possession of a machinegun during another failed carjacking? Thank heavens the Land of Lincoln’s legislators took a break from day drinking long enough to pass legislation to protect us from the racist cash bail system we’d had since our nation was founded.

A south suburban teenager who raps under the name “4 Block Lil Mari” has been jailed after prosecutors accused him of shooting a woman during a botched South Shore carjacking that ended with the victim, a concealed carry holder, shooting him as well.
Kamari Bonslater, 17, of Steger, was already on pretrial release for allegedly possessing a machine gun and a stolen vehicle at the time of the shooting, prosecutors said.
The charges stem from a failed carjacking on September 7 in the 6700 block of South Cregier. Chicago police initially described the incident as a drive-by shooting that left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition with three gunshot wounds and a 34-year-old woman shot twice in the leg. It now turns out that Bonslater, who has since celebrated his 17th birthday, was the critically wounded teen.
4 Block’s distinctive “Murda” tat on this throat might have given him away to at least one of his would-be victims.
The victim’s companion later told police she recognized the gunman as a local rapper and provided his stage name: 4 Block Lil Mari.
Bonslater was found near the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Surveillance footage shows him standing by the victim’s car at the moment shots were fired and collapsing as the vehicle sped away, prosecutors said.
So much for 4 Block telling cops “It wasn’t me.”
The video also shows several accomplices carrying him into an alley. Officials said Bonslater and at least two of those accomplices, who remain at large, fired at the fleeing car.
And they shot at the car as their victims tried to escape? Nice guys.
Is continued criminal behavior a sign that their rap career is not going well or a sign that it is going well?
Maybe rap music doesn’t beget violence but wannabe rappers sure do.

In other words we should expect him out on the streets within the hour on cashless bail.
F.Y.I. society implicitly endorses violent criminal behavior when society (via the criminal justice system) does not arrest and imprison violent criminals.
That is not hyperbole by the way, that is exactly what violent criminals conclude and why violent crime is so prevalent in locations with “no cash bail”.
