Like a good neighbor, a gun owner is there. This past week, an armed good Samaritan engaged habitual armed criminal Torrance Spears Jr. not long after Spears shot and wounded a police officer in Muskegan Heights, Michigan.
Before additional police arrived, the good guy with a gun punched a hole in Mr. Spears in an exchange of gunfire. Minutes later, cops showed up and found the suspect in an alley licking his wounds. When he raised his gun towards the offers, they opened fire putting an end to the would-be cop killer’s rampage and deleting him from the gene pool.
Fox17 has the gory details of the blocks-long crime scene.
A suspect is dead and a police officer is injured following an officer-involved shooting Monday morning in Muskegon Heights.
The incident spanned three different scenes, beginning with a reported disturbance on Baker Street.
According to Muskegon Heights police, an officer who stopped to assist was shot during an exchange of gunfire with the suspect.
About five minutes later, the suspect was spotted on the porch of a home on Reynolds Street, where he reportedly fired at a passing car. The vehicle was hit, but no one inside was injured.
The homeowner then shot at the suspect, apparently hitting him before the suspect returned fire and fled the scene.
Police later found the suspect in an alley behind a home on Howden Street. Officials say the suspect was armed and refused commands to drop his weapon.
When the suspect pointed his weapon at an officer, two officers fired their weapons, hitting him. The suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
For those who think they’ll only need their guns when they’re going out, late in the evenings, or in sketchy neighborhoods, this 8am Monday morning crime spree proves that violent thugs don’t work on your timetable. Ditto for those who think that violent crime only happens “in other places.”
This story shows the proven benefits of firearm ownership and having a gun handy when things unexpectedly go sideways.
Pro-tip: You can’t beat home carry for an instant response when seconds count. Because you never know when you’re going to run into three home invaders with a baby on your hip.
Oh yeah, in another story, WOOD-TV reported that the bad guy was a certified menace to society:
Police did not immediately release the name of the man who died, but said he was wanted on two counts of assault and a weapons charge as a habitual offender after charges were issued Thursday.
Go figure.
In an indirect and direct manner, this armed citizen (the ‘homeowner’ in the article) was a hero as this armed citizen essentially stopped an ‘attempted’ ‘mass-shooting’ from happening. Spears wasn’t just firing at one car (the one he hit, he just happen to have hit that one), he was intentionally firing at any passing cars and at the homes while on that porch where he was engaged by this armed citizen hero. So in effect Spears was conducting a mass-shooting attempt if he realized it or not. Because the hero armed citizen put some deterrence in Spears, it caused Spears to flee to lick his wounds thus stopping him from firing at cars and homes thus stopping what was essentially in effect a mass shooting attempt.
As a recent video on Youtube points out most defensive handgun uses are in or around your own home. More than other locations combined.
