Chicago’s Weekend Violence at Loop Tree Lighting and on an MTA Train Leave the City Reeling

abc7chicago.com

If you needed another reason to carry your gat religiously, look no further than the Windy City. America’s murder capital lived up to its moniker yet again with five killed and 23 wounded over the pre-Thanksgiving weekend as reported by HeyJackass. Thanks to the Land of Lincoln’s laws making it difficult for responsible, law-abiding gun owners to carry guns where they need them most, the paucity of good guys and gals with guns allowed gang members and lunatics to run roughshod over innocent people.

The weekend’s body count doesn’t include an innocent 26-year-old woman set on fire on a CTA train by a mope who’d been arrested 72 times since his 18th birthday.

Bethany MaGee

In an incident eerily similar to the attack upon Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier this year, a man with a long criminal history attacked a solitary woman, this time by pouring gasoline over her head, then setting her ablaze.

Unlike countless times before, Mr. Firestarter, aka Lawrence Reed, won’t be released under Illinois’ No Cash Bail law.  The feds have swooped in and charged him with domestic terrorism and a federal judge has ordered him held without bail.

Meanwhile, at the annual Christmas tree lighting event in the heart of downtown Chicago, 300 urban yoots began fighting and rioting. Then gang members began shooting at one another. Eight were shot in the 100 block of North State Street. Not even an hour later, two more were fatally shot a block away on Dearborn Street.

Both the arson attack by a career criminal (even the NY Post described him as a ‘serial thug’) and the riot downtown are big black eyes for Mayor Moron and alleged presidential hopeful Governor JB Pritzker.

From the New York Post:

The 26-year-old woman who cops said was set on fire by a lunatic with a lengthy rap sheet on a Chicago L train earlier this month has been identified as Bethany MaGee.

“It is devastating that a career criminal with 72 PRIOR ARRESTS is now accused of attacking 26-year-old Bethany MaGee on Chicago’s L train, and setting her on fire,” US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on social media Sunday.

“This would never have happened if this thug had been behind bars. Yet Chicago lets repeat offenders roam the streets,” Duffy said of suspect Lawrence Reed, 50, who is facing federal terrorism charges in connection with the senseless fire attack.

More from another Post story, this one on the downtown riot:

The riot, which followed a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, broke out near State and Randolph streets at about 10 p.m. Friday, Fox 32 Chicago reported.

City Alderman Brian Hopkins of Chicago’s 2nd Ward said 300 juveniles were rioting and attacking officers with mace and stun guns.

At least one officer was hospitalized with injuries, he confirmed.

At least six children were shot, including a 13-year-old, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Less than an hour later, a 14-year-old boy was shot and later died at a hospital. An 18-year-old man was also wounded.

That 18-year-old later died.

The moral of the story: avoid crime-ridden urban centers and carry your gun every day. What’s more, carry some form of personal legal coverage to protect you in the event you need to use force in defense of yourself or a 26-year-old woman who’s about to be set ablaze by a violent recidivist thug.

  1. Reeling kinda implies they’d wanna do something about it.

They don’t and aren’t. Blue city folk take pride in how violent, impoverished and chaotic their cities are. It’s cool.

Why else would they keep electing people who enable this, enacting laws that reward this, blaming everyone but themselves for this and deriding anyone who suggests maybe this isn’t the best way to live?

    1. Shire-man,

And by extension (of your commentary), violent criminals determine that their victims and society actually consent to their attacks–otherwise the victims and society would proverbially and literally punch back.

  2. Did Gun Owners Crack The Politician-Approved Glock In Days With A Switch? [spoiler note: Yep, they did. Took about, metaphorically, ‘five minutes’ to do it.]

  3. Four thugs vs one homeowner – so, let’s talk about mag capacities and actual FACTS.

“A Florida homeowner was forced to defend his life against FOUR intruders trying to break into his home. This wasn’t a “one bad guy in a well-lit gun range lane” situation — this was chaos, adrenaline, darkness, and a four-on-one home invasion that anti-gun politicians pretend never happens.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth they don’t want you to hear:

    10 rounds is NOT enough.

    Not when:
    • You’re outnumbered
    • Your heart rate hits 180+ BPM
    • Your hands shake
    • Your accuracy crashes
    • Criminals don’t follow mag restrictions
    • You miss shots because biology, not politics, decides performance

Even trained police officers only hit 18–37% of their shots in real gunfights. And we expect a startled homeowner at 2 AM to magically shoot a perfect score with 10 rounds?

Four attackers x 3–4 hits needed each = 12–16 hits required.
At a realistic 30% hit rate = 40–50+ rounds needed.

    But under a magazine ban?
    Politicians generously allow you 10.

    That’s not safety.
    That’s state-mandated vulnerability.”

    1. .40 cal Booger,

When it comes to government mandated 10-round magazine capacity limits, you stated:

      That’s not safety.
      That’s state-mandated vulnerability.

That, my friend, is one of the most profound statements that anyone has ever said in the debate over our inalienable right to life–which necessarily requires effective self-defense.

    2. .40 cal Booger,

Regarding your computations for typical expected hit rates and thus required ammunition capacity for effective self-defense, your estimate is very much plausible assuming that all four attackers will continue to attack after you start shooting. While that assumption is likely correct in some cases, it is incorrect in other cases. (There are countless videos of home invaders who immediately start their escape as soon as the homeowner starts shooting.)

Nevertheless, when it comes to risk management (such as self-defense), I like to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. And that means having as much ammunition readily available as is practical.

      1. Its not my “computations” – its the guy in the video. But I know the studies hes trying to outline, there’s a lot to it and more than he can cram into his short video. His numbers are derived from the studies and based upon stopping (not wounding) the threat in scenarios where it becomes necessary based upon what the studies actually show taking into account hit/miss ratio under stress response – basically, for every round fired and misses or fails to stop an active/advancing threat, especially if they are armed, means another shot needing to be fired to get a hit which works out to 3–4 hits (minimum) needed for each attacker in a ‘four attacker’ scenario [actually its single-attacker based in the studies, hes just using the Florida incident number]. Notice it says “3–4 hits” – HITS, not rounds fired but hits on the bad guy that will stop or lead to stopping the bad guy quickly, its HITS to stop the threat not wound the threat.

The video is only so long, he can’t cram everything into it so he hits the main salient points. But he is 100% correct. It might not happen in every situation and the bad guys might run away, but you can not depend on that happening in every situation – its like saying “I’m healthy, no bad habits, in optimum physical shape so I’ll never ever ever need a doctor”, yeah, that works until, for example, you get into a really bad car accident because a DUI driver ran into you. The point is you can not rely on human nature to always fit the scenario you are comfortable with or what some media story shows, bad guys do not always run away so you need to be prepared the best you can for the unexpected.

  4. Moms Demand Action says “There is no research to support the notion that owning a gun improves safety for women.” — that’s not true but its no shocker that Moms Demand Action lied again, lying is a pretty common thing with anti-gun groups…but anyway…

  5. “Chicago’s Weekend Violence at Loop Tree Lighting and on an MTA Train Leave the City Reeling”

Do you have evidence of this? The people in Chicago are getting exactly what they voted for.

In an incident eerily similar to the attack upon Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina…

Yes, both of those young white women were BLM supporters. 2020 BLM helped usher in this era of selective prosecution: violent criminals walk free, while people with the “wrong” politics get the book thrown at them. Those young women were useful idiots.

It doesn’t matter how great your job is or how much money you make. If you’re staying in Chicago, then you don’t care about your family’s safety. Don’t act shocked when bad things happen. You’ve had more than enough warning to do something.

  6. Carrying a gun is good advise but in Chicago good luck getting a permit.
If you are caught with an unlicensed firearm you would be punished more than the career criminal. is for multiple assaults.

  7. I get that it’s probably only possible to file terrorism charges by making the target an institution like the Chicago transit system, but it’s still enraging. A young woman was attacked and damn near burned to death. She’s the victim, not some faceless bureaucracy.

  8. Some time in the near future, the “officials” who release these savages back into our community will be held accountable by more than simply a “you naughty person–you got a girl killed–that’s not good!”

  9. Michael G. Gallagher

Setting the stage for a Starship Trooper, Heilein type society.

Or, if you’re old enough to remember the late Jerry Pournelle’s Codominium stories, where is the mercenary leader Colonel John Christian Falkenberg when you need him?

  10. I’m armed wherever I go. And metal detectors mean nothing to me. Because I EDC non-metallic self-defense arms.

    Now.

Thank you to the white libertarians liberals and leftists. And all self hating white people who support emptying the jails. Because they say America locks up to many criminals. Compared to other European countries.

    According to their expertise view.

How many black victims did this guy attack??? Before he set this innocent white woman on fire.

They never seem to care about the innocent people. But they care a great deal about criminals who harm others.

    1. You can thank female judges. They’re the worst when it comes to sentencing violent criminals. The prosecutor was begging the judge to lock this guy up the last time he assaulted someone. The judge said something like, “I can’t just lock up everyone because you want me to.” What a $†µρ!Ð ß!†¢#. This assault is on her.
