Chicago outdid itself with its annual Father’s Day gift to the nation: at least seven people murdered and 35 more wounded in a nonstop barrage of gang shootings from Friday evening through Sunday. More than two dozen separate incidents lit up the south and west sides, where the usual suspects engaged in turf wars and retaliatory beefs upheld the city’s well-earned reputation as America’s largest open-air shooting gallery.
The low point of the weekend came during a Juneteenth gathering when two shooters opened fire from an SUV into a crowd, wounding at least 12 people (eight men and four women, ages 17 to 47). Victims were rushed to multiple hospitals and another man refused treatment. This single act of gang savagery perfectly encapsulated the weekend’s chaos — criminals rolling up and spraying bullets with zero regard for innocent lives around them.
Note that none of this was was the kind of random “gun violence” from law-abiding citizens that the gun control industry shrieks about in support of limiting Americans Second Amendment rights. It was textbook gang violence, the predictable harvest of Chicago’s criminal underclass blasting away with illegal firearms while the city’s incompetent or complicit leadership fiddles.
President Donald Trump, as usual, offered actual solutions instead of rote slogans. He renewed his offer to step in and fix America’s murder capital, boasting he could clean it up in one month. “Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help?” Trump asked.
That, however, would require Governor Pritzker admitting decades of failure and accepting help from a political enemy. Living with this kind of carnage is a choice.
Enter Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson with his signature blend of uselessness. The incapable city leader bleated that what should have been a Juneteenth celebration “was shattered by a horrific act of violence.”
And don’t forget his standard tough-guy closer: “Those responsible will be held accountable.” We have some news for Hizzoner…with nearly zero suspects arrested in most of the weekend’s shootings, exactly how will anyone be held accountable? The empty platitudes fool no one except the true believers still pretending that his leadership isn’t just a rolling disaster.
But wait, it gets better. At the tail end of the Father’s Day/Juneteenth weekend, the Mayor didn’t want to talk about gang violence. Instead of the accumulated dead and wounded, he chose to focus on the real problem facing the Windy City and declared a “transfemicide state of emergency.”

Meanwhile, Governor Pritzker remains safely ensconced in his mansion, far from the neighborhoods and citizens being shot to pieces with alarming regularity. He prefers the classic head-in-the-sand approach for dealing with his hometown’s body count: deny there’s an emergency, reject the President’s help, and keep shoveling money into corrupt NGO programs (with zero taxpayer accountability) while the gangs laugh all the way to the next drive-by location.
“Do not come,” Pritzker essentially sneered at offers of federal intervention — because nothing says “I’ve got this” like watching your state’s biggest city bleed out while you lecture everyone about power grabs. That’s easy when the bullets aren’t landing in your backyard. And you aren’t at risk of getting carjacked in your own driveway as you unload after a trip to the grocery store.
Meanwhile, the gun-grabbers are still championing the farce known as “violence interrupters.” Taxpayer-funded citizen exemplars who are supposed to stop the killing. In practice, several have been caught committing the very gun crimes they’re paid to prevent — including one genius recently sentenced to 22 years for a string of armed carjackings. Others have racked up illegal gun charges while already out on bond. Maybe the violence interruptor hiring process isn’t all it should be.
This is the inevitable result of decades of one-party rule: soft-on-crime policies, revolving-door “justice,” slashed proactive policing, and an obsession with social experiments over locking up predators. Law-abiding gun owners aren’t terrorizing Chicago. Gangbangers with illegal weapons are. Real fixes mean aggressive prosecutions, backing the police, and letting citizens defend themselves — not more of the performative political nonsense from Mayor Moron and Governor Head-in-the-Sand.
Until Chicago and Illinois replaces its failed leadership with people who prioritize the safety of citizens over ideology, these bloody weekends will keep coming. The gangs are counting on it and the victims’ families are paying for it. And Illinois’ law-abiding gun owners will continue to bear the brunt of additional gun control schemes advanced by legislators willing to do anything to deflect blame for their serial public policy failures.
Yeah, cause to the democrats nothing says celebrating freedom from slavery like being enslaved by the tyranny of democrat politician facilitated and enabled mass violence and murder.
