Do you want to die in Texas? Walk into a bank with a knife and threaten the nice woman behind the counter.
This isn’t Chicago. Or New York City. A whole lot of Texans carry guns and people are generally kind, even before you consider that many of them are strapped. So when a knife-wielding thug tried to rob the Chase Bank in Cedar Hill Monday morning, he was already making a series of very poor life choices.
A customer saw the blade, heard the threat and decided he wasn’t going to see a teller hurt or killed over some cash. Not on his watch. He drew and shot the robber.
The would-be holdup man stumbled out of the bank, leaking profusely. Police found him in the parking lot clinging to whatever was left of his plan. He died shortly after, along with his dreams of spending other people’s money.

Nobody else was hurt. Not the tellers. Not the customers. Not even a houseplant. The good Samaritan stayed, talked to police, and was released.
Bringing a knife into a Texas bank and expecting compliance isn’t a strategy. It’s a suicide note with a extra stupid attached. Lawful adults can and do carry here. Bystanders aren’t required to stay still while someone threatens great bodily harm over a cash drawer.
This little drama ended the only way it was likely to end in the Lone Star State. The customer did what the law allows when death or serious injury is on the table. The robber chose the occupation, the tool and the target and the customer chose to end the threat. For good.
