Orland Park, IL Gas Station Stickup Man Learns the Victim Gets a Vote, Too

Orland Park gas station robber

Around 9 a.m. yesterday at a Shell station in Orland Park, a customer was doing the most suburban thing on earth: pumping gas into his car. Then he noticed a moron looking at him hard. The moron wanted to transact business at the barrel of a gun. He thought he’d found an easy mark and a quick payday. To his great surprise, his intended victim was an Illinois concealed carry license holder.

Police say the suspect approached the person at the pump to rob him. The CCL holder drew and shot the armed attacker. The would-be stickup artist left in an ambulance. The customer stayed and spend the rest of the morning as a witness rather than a victim.

Orland Park Sgt. Richard Whalen confirmed the basics and withheld the names. The investigation is active. The lesson for other aspiring morons is not.

This is the career path of a low-information Chicagoland predator. He saw at a stranger filling a tank in a south suburb gas station and ran the same math that increasingly fails Chicago: I have a weapon, therefore I win. He failed to ask the logical follow-up question: Does the other guy have a gun too and know how to use it?

Concealed carry exists exactly for mornings like this. The gun Mr. Moron couldn’t see turned that robbery into a hospital stay.

The thug wanted cash. He won a painful stupid prize instead. That should bring a smile to the face of good guys and gals everywhere. It’s how natural selection works when law-abiding people are allowed to carry and defend themselves.

Concealed carry deters the thoughtful criminal (few, though they may be). It thins the herd of the dumbest ones — and that is saying something, because it’s generally a race to the bottom of the IQ barrel.

Chicago Public Schools fail to teach a majority of kids reading and math, let alone critical thinking. Through social promotion, they graduate them with a diploma they can’t even read. Then local politicians and prosecutors treat armed robbery like a side hustle.

The CCL holder here wasn’t looking for a fight. He was looking for fuel. The bad guy brought the gun and discovered that Orland Park isn’t a free-fire zone for illiterate opportunists. Concealed carry works. It works because the next genius who thinks a gas station is an armed robbery ATM will have to guess after this one guessed wrong.
