This repeal didn’t happen by accident. It slipped through quietly, buried in a massive bill, with little debate and even less public awareness. But that doesn’t mean the story ends here.
What happens when silencers become easier to buy than ever before? What role can we play in making sure our communities stay safe, and our voices stay heard?
Maybe it starts with a message to a senator, a petition, or a post. Maybe it’s showing up at a town hall, or supporting groups already doing the work: groups like Brady United Against Gun Violence, Everytown, Moms Demand Action, Giffords, and Sandy Hook Promise.
We don’t all have the same tools. But we all have a voice. And in the face of policies that turn down the volume on violence, maybe the most powerful thing we can do is refuse to stay quiet. If our leaders won’t raise the alarm, we have to. Because the more we let silence spread, the more dangerous this country becomes.
It’s time to make some noise and address this hidden upheaval of public safety.

When the $200.00 tax was paid your were actually registering with the treasury department that a tax had been paid, thus the tax stamp – the registration was actually a ‘book keeping’ accounting method of tax paid. First: Sally evidently did not read her own reference link for the Virginia Beach incident – the shooter did not use a suppressor like she claims. Look at the very bottom of that link Sally, where it says “CORRECTION (June 5, 2019, 11:23 a.m. ET): A previous version of this article incorrectly described the gun used in the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California, in November. The shooter, Ian David Long, did not use a silencer, according to police.” – no ‘silencer’ was used. Ya didn’t bother to think about that part now did you Sally, like all anti-gun, and left wingers overall, you are confirmation biased and inherently dishonest and do not know what ‘context’ means.
Second: The NFA is a tax law, not a firearms law. The NFA was created so congress could regulate by taxing, that was the entire goal of the NFA and it was the goal of putting ‘silencers’ under the NFA, and at the time they even said so. It had nothing to do with with any goal “to treat them with caution and scrutiny.”
The $200.00 tax and registration is not what you think it was Sally. The purpose of the registration was to register paying the tax, not the ‘silencer’ – thus the tax stamp. In other words, the registration was a tax accountability ‘book keeping’ method. All the other stuff with the background check and so on was piled onto that, it was unconstitutional thus illegal, but the only reason it survived as such is because its a tax law and the government had the power to tax and SCOTUS even basically said so back in the 1930’s that it was ‘unconstitutional’ but it stayed because congress had the power to tax. No one actually registers a ‘silencer’ with the ATF, they are actually just the middle man – when one pays the tax they are actually registering with the U.S. treasury that a tax was paid.
Sally, one day when you get a job you too will register a tax paid to the U.S. treasury if you get paid for being employed. Everyone does. When you get employed you fill out a form W-4, when you do that you are actually ‘registering’ to the U.S. Treasury taxes to be paid from your paycheck, and the IRS is just the middle man.
Millions of law abiding people own ‘silencers’. They have been all during their existence also easy to obtain ‘illegally’, and they are also relatively easy to build with the correct materials and tools. Yet, despite all the years of ‘silencers’ being available this ‘armageddon’ of doom you cry about in your very much exaggerated lies has not happened.
Across the United States, daily ~103 times more people are criminally attacked with knives than all of the people actually shot criminally with a silencer used in the last 100 years. Knives are ‘silent’, where is your outrage over knives Sally?

Over the last 100 years there have been approximately 120 cases of violent incidents and planned attacks in which silencers were linked to the incidents in the United States. But not all of those actually used ‘silencers’ like its implied. For example, your Virginia beach incident was one such case ‘linked’ to a silencer but in reality no silencer was used. It was linked because the reporting was wrong, it jumped to a false conclusion because of what some people said. Also, over the last 100 years there have been approximately 400 (maybe a little more) federal cases involving ‘serious crimes’ in which silencers were linked – but what was the ‘serious crime’? Basically, the ‘serious crime’ in the majority of them was not paying the $200.00 tax or making or possessing ‘silencers’ without registering them to pay the tax thus in possession of a ‘firearm’ illegally.
Yet, despite that…the only notable cases in more recent history are these:
The 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, where a silencer was used.
The 2023 mass shooting in Monterey Park, resulting in 11 deaths and 9 injuries.
A 2019 mass shooting in Virginia Beach, where a silencer-equipped pistol was used, killing 12 people.
You see that last one, for the Virginia Beach incident? Yeah, that’s not true – no silencer was used.
You see that second one, the Monterey Park incident? Yeah, silencers were linked only because the shooter supposedly had what they called ‘silencer making equipment’ in his home.
So the first one, the UnitedHealthcare CEO incident, yeah a ‘silencer’.
But what do these three share in common? They are mentally ill people. Sally, do you think a $200.00 tax keeps a person from getting a silencer to carry out their mentally ill crimes? I did post there originally when it first appeared before it appeared here, an abbreviated version of what I posted here, pointing out the lies with links to the information I presented here … it got removed after about 10 minutes.
