Hunter? Outdoorsman? Dog owner? Check out these super handy, anti-tick tools I bumped into at SHOT this year.
First up is the Tick Mitt (or TiCK MiTT if I’m following their unique capitalization scheme), available for $14.99 to $19.99 on Amazon HERE, which comes first because it’s step one for removing ticks that may be crawling on you or your pets.
Operation couldn’t be easier. Just put the ol’ mitt on your hand and rub it over your entire body or all over your doggo. Non-embedded ticks stick to the MiTT like extra strength Velcro, and you can take care of them from there or just throw the whole mitt into the dryer for 10 minutes and they’ll be good and gone. The TiCK MiTT can (and arguably should) be used on top of all of your clothes and gear as soon as you get out of a tick habitat (or even during) and can then be passed over your skin later.
Having done the personal inspection after hunting many times in the past, including on a recent dove hunt with Dan where I pulled two ticks off my skin, I can 100% vouch that simply passing a TiCK MiTT over my body would be way faster, apparently more effective, and less awkward that standing naked in front of a mirror and having a good look at places few ever see, including me.
Next up is the TiCK SiDEKiCK, which isn’t yet on the TiCK MiTT website or Amazon store, but will be soon. This is a tick removal multi-tool for ticks that have already embedded themselves.
The SiDEKiCK has a purpose-designed tick removal prong along with a nice set of tweezers and a flashlight that puts light precisely where you need it while you’re using either of the flip-out tools.
Finally, this year the TiCK MiTT team is launching a Lyme disease rapid test. If you live in an area where Lyme disease is common, in 15 minutes this test will tell you if the tick you removed was a carrier.
A Mitt and a Sidekick will be in my hunting kit from this point forward. Well, once the ice melts and Amazon is able to deliver my MiTT…and then once again when TiCK MiTT officially launches the SiDEKiCK.
