Florida Home Invader to Lose His Independence After Being Shot During July 4th Fireworks

Fireworks traditionally happen outside the home on Independence Day, but not in one Osceola, Florida residence. While the residents were away watching fireworks or whatever they were doing on the evening of July 4th, police say Mitchell Platt decided he would burglarize some area homes. Unfortunately for Mr. Mitchell, a homeowner’s son noticed an open door and investigated…with his six-shooter.

Once at the door, the son heard strange noises and called out asking if anyone was inside. The burglar popped out and charged the son. Reports say the opportunistic thief didn’t even have a knife or blunt-force instrument. He must have thought the armed man didn’t have the stones to shoot him. Or maybe he’d just let the aggressive thug leave unmolested.

Mitchell Platt thought wrong. He got a gunshot wound to the leg. At that point, Mr. Platt adopted a kinder, gentler, meeker and milder posture under threat of additional perforations until police arrived.

WKMG Click Orlando has the story:

A man arrested on the Fourth of July in Osceola County is accused of burglarizing a woman’s house before being shot by the homeowner’s son, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to the home along Deer Run Road, where the homeowner’s son was holding the alleged burglar — Mitchell Platt, 37 — at gunpoint after shooting him in the leg.

The homeowner’s son had noticed a rear door was left open and armed himself with a revolver after then entering the home and reportedly hearing strange noises, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

After the man called out to see if anyone else was in the home, Platt allegedly emerged from a hallway and charged toward him, prompting the man to fire a single shot into Platt’s leg, the release states.

The homeowner’s son came away uninjured. Platt got a free ride to the hospital. Once treated, law enforcement arrested Mr. Platt. From there, he received another free ride, this time to the Osceola County Corrections facility.

It takes a special kind of low-life to break into people’s homes as they’re away watching fireworks and celebrating America’s independence. Here’s hoping Mr. Platt is celebrating a few years on the graybar motel.

Aim center mass please. No extra psperwork for the second shot of a controlled pair. Taxpeyers appreciate the taxpayer relief shot.

The bad guy got shot in the leg, but probably not because the victim aimed for the leg but rather the victim fired while raising the gun. In other words the victim waited too long and wasn’t at ready and with the closing bad guy fired while bringing the gun up. That’s how the majority of ‘leg shot’ home invaders get shot in the leg, not that the victim was intending it but rather they weren’t at ready and suddenly start raising the gun firing on the way up.

  2. I wonder whether we’ll hear bleatings of
“See? All you need to do is shoot to wound! Just shoot him in the leg, that will stop him!”
    or
“The poor guy was empty-handed! It should be illegal to use a gun to attack an unarmed person!”
    or
“See? You don’t need a fully semiautomatic assault rifle with a high capacity clipazine!”

  3. Florida is one of the last states you should try breaking into a house in. Everyone’s armed and the sheriffs prefer that you do defend your house.
