Tough words spewed from America’s least popular mayor Tuesday. Murder City’s Brandon Johnson declared that law enforcement is “a sickness” that he intends to “eradicate.” The fiery, but mostly peaceful press conference also saw the feckless mayor demand and end to jails and incarceration for those who can’t manage to follow society’s laws and norms.
Johnson, with a single-digit approval rating at one point in his term, has found himself under a lot of pressure to do something to reduce the Second City’s rampant violent crime problem.
The alternative? Well one alternative is to have President Donald J. Trump do it for him. That, however, would be an admission of defeat he couldn’t stand politically.
Does Mayor Brandon Johnson actually believes the pro-criminal, anti-law-and-order tripe he peddles? Apparently. He let the mask slip and blow completely away as he bad-mouthed not only his city’s police but essentially demanded an end to the criminal justice system in the massive open-air shooting gallery he ostensibly runs.
Nevermind that he conveniently believes in law enforcement enough that to have about 150 of Chicago’s finest working in his personal protection detail. There’s no word yet as to when he’s going to disband that team in the name of “eradicating” the “sickness” that is modern law enforcement.

“Jails and incarceration and law enforcement is a sickness that has not led to safe communities,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson declared during a fiery press conference Tuesday, adding that he intends to “eradicate” that sickness.
Johnson made the remarks after a reporter asked him about his administration’s public safety plan. During his diatribe, the mayor cited four years of Chicago murder data, beginning with the city’s record-setting 970 killings in 1974. He noted there were 828 murders in 1995, 778 in 2016, and 805 in 2021.
“This has been a problem in this city for a very long time,” Johnson said, claiming the city is seeing improvement due to his initiatives. Now, the mayor claimed, President Donald Trump “wants to put his name on our paper” and take credit for the latest downtrend.
But Johnson chose outlier years to bolster his point, including the city’s worst year on record, while overlooking the longer trend of steady decline. Between 2004 and 2013, Chicago never recorded more than 513 killings in a year, and most years stayed under 450, according to official records. In 2015, the city had 493 murders, well below the 778 he cited for 2016. And the 2021 total occurred during the pandemic crime surge.
To be sure, 2025’s murder count is on pace to show marked improvement. But the city’s long-term decline came during the very period Johnson described as plagued by a “sickness” of arrests and incarceration.
“We’re offering a better pathway so we don’t have 970 people murdered in our city every single year,” Johnson said, despite the fact that Chicago has not approached that figure in decades and has never tied or exceeded it.
“I get so sick and tired of people believing that the only thing that Black and Brown and poor people get to get in this city are badges,” he continued. “No. It’s a sickness and we’re gonna eradicate it.”
