With Open Carry Now Legal in FL, Publix Makes Its Case for Being the Best Grocery Store Chain in America

Publix grocery store Florida

Florida’s new open carry law seems to be reshaping policies at major retailers — including Publix, the state’s beloved grocery chain.

Publix, one of Florida’s largest and most recognizable grocery chains, is now allowing customers to openly carry firearms in its stores across the state, according to multiple employees. The change follows a recent court decision that overturned Florida’s ban on open carry, ruling it unconstitutional.

The new law, which took effect on Sept. 25, gives private businesses the discretion to prohibit or permit open carry on their premises. Publix, which operates more than 900 locations statewide, appears to have chosen to allow it. Employees at various stores confirmed the policy shift when contacted.

According to our news partners at the South Florida Sun Sentinel, reporters reached out to eight Publix stores in South Florida — including Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Davie, Miramar, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Coral Gables, and Homestead. Each store confirmed that open carry is now permitted in response to the court ruling.

    1. I’m pleasantly surprised at the Publix Corporation taking this position, I fully expected to see a sign saying (something along the lines of) “Publix Politely Requests no Open Carry in our stores”.

Since at all times I carry a NAA Mini-Revolver in a vertical neck holster under my shirt, it will be a pleasure to ‘Whip It Out’ the next time I’m visiting, just to see what a reaction I’ll get, from staff and customers.

I’ll be certain to not antagonize any Leftist Scum ™ that may have a problem with displayed freedom… 😉

      1. Overall, I prefer ‘concealed carry’ – I see no reason to give a potential opponent more information than I have to. “Is he carrying concealed, or not??” I dunno, take your chances, @$$hole, and find out.

OTOH, almost any concealed carry is slightly slower to deploy than open carry. I long for the day when open carry is so endemic that no one thinks twice about it. Then, I might start carrying open.

        Hey, I can dream, can’t I????

        1. “If the NAA isn’t mistaken for a charm.”

Pretty much, i actually got it for when people say I’m compensating for having a small dick, I can prove that the gun I’m carrying is smaller than the one I was born with.

Nice way to shut them up… 😉

      2. Hmmm. “Whip it out?” That’s brandishing!!

Imagine the 911 call, “Help! There’s a guy here in Publix. He pulled out a gun and he’s waving it around. Get here fast. PLEASE!”

Bad idea . . . very bad idea.
