Welcome to another day of the Trump 2.0 presidency featuring another basement-dwelling social misfit deciding to beat his chest online and posting a threat to kill Vice President J.D. Vance. We don’t know if he lives in his parents’ basement, but Shannon Mathre should have known better than to announce that he planned to “use my M14 automatic gun and kill him.”
Yes, an M14 automatic gun.
“But wait!” as the Sham-wow guy would say. When the feds rolled him up and took a peek at his handy-dandy Samsung phone, they allegedly (cough) found kiddie pron there. Why stop at just one serious felony when you can add charges of child sex abuse materials to the mix. Because inmates just love depraved child molesters.
It seems doubtful this guy had an M1A or similar rifle or would know how to describe it. He’s more likely to be a basement-dwelling troll pretending to be a tough guy online. He probably spends more time raging about politicians that he blames for everything wrong with his life than he does making himself a better person.
Now he’s looking at an extended stay at Club Fed. If he’s lucky. Shannon’s probably just realizing that his mouth wrote checks his ass is going to have to cash.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Shannon Mathre, 33, is accused of threatening to kill Vice President JD Vance.
According to the indictment, Mathre said, “I am going to find out where he (the vice president) is going to be and use my M14 automatic gun and kill him.”
Mathre was arrested by the Secret Service on Feb. 6.
“While arresting this man for allegedly threatening to murder the Vice President of the United States, a serious crime in and of itself, federal law enforcement discovered that he was also in possession of child sexual abuse materials,” said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Thank you to federal, state and local partners in working together to bring justice twofold to this depraved individual.”
According to the DOJ, while investigating Mathre for the alleged threats, they found that between Dec. 31, 2025, and Jan. 21, 2026, Mathre was engaged in the receipt and distribution of sexually explicit images involving minors.
Moral of the story? If you have a beef with a federal official while your hard drive is already crime scene, maybe just stick to yelling at your TV. Either way, the Secret Service will happily deliver the “Find Out” part of the FAFO equation if you threaten political assassinations online for all to see.
Well, being fair, IF he had an actual M14, they were capable of fully-automatic fire. OTOH, given the ignorance of his reference, and the unlikelihood of him obtaining an actual M14, you initial reaction is probably correct; he’s a lying propagandist idiot.
