WTAF? Why the hell not? Who says we can’t? Crazy, but sure. Come on, let’s do it.
You have to think that some or all of those were heard around amongst the Rossi design team when they contemplated extending their R95 lever gun and Brawler pistol lines to include these latest mutations. Both seem to be ideas so crazy they just might be a hell of a lot of fun.
First up is the R95 Triple Black pistol. Rossi announced their R95 Triple Black lever guns at the end of 2024. They’re Rossi’s version of the increasingly popular “tactical” lever gun genre. They chambered it in good, traditional lever gun calibers like .30-30 and .45-70.

Now, however, they’ve decided that a pistol version is just the thing. And they’re offering the R95 Triple Black Pistol pistol calibers like .357, .44 Magnum, .454 Casull and… .45-70. Because boom.
They come threaded for use with a can because, as that design team no doubt said, why the hell not? Besides, it’s tactical. MSRP is $1,275.
Futher along the WTAF scale is Rossi’s latest chambering of its Brawler single shot pistol. Rossi first rolled out this big boy in a .45-70/.410 model. Now, though, they’ve added 5.56 and .300 Blackout chamberings.
Unlike the slab-sided barrels on the .45-70 guns, these new calibers have beefy 9-inch round bull barrels and are threaded for suppressors.
There’s plenty of railage on top of that break-action barrel to mount your favorite red dot or scope, too. MSRP is $303.00. We have both of these strange new beasts on their way to us for full reviews. Stay tuned.

For years, I have thought about getting a .300 Blackout threaded barrel for my old TC Contender, as it would make for a stupid quiet rig for whitetails and hogs with a can and subsonic ammo. However, the price for such a barrel would be about 50% more than the likely street price of the Brawler.
So, questions will be how good is the trigger and how good is the accuracy . . . .
The trigger looks like it could easily be worked on by a competent gunsmith if the trigger didn’t quite meet one’s specs. The owner’s manual shows a breakdown of the parts (page 22).

Accuracy will be down to how good / mediocre the barrel is. Break action is about as foolproof as it gets.
I’ve heard that follow up shots aren’t required for .45-70.
With the passing of the T/C Contender handguns. and their uncertain possible return with the new ownership, had hoped that the Brawler was designed so barrels could be swapped out for different applications. Note – A .223/5.56 round in a 9″ barrel is a major ear splitter bast. When will a .22KR or .22WMR barrel be available??? Would like that option better.
