Check your calendar. No, it’s not April 1. These really are AR-15 platform rifles and pistols from Hi-Point. Like, for real. MKS Supply — better known as Hi-Point Firearms — is producing AR platform guns. Their new HP-15 will come in both a standard 16-inch rifle model as well as a 10.5-inch pistol. The pistol will be available in 5.56 and 300 Blackout and the rifle will be 5.56 only. At least for now.

The folks at Hi-Point tell me the reason for getting into the AR business is simple. They sell their pistols to a lot of first-time gun buyers. When those people are ready to jump up to something bigger that isn’t a pistol caliber carbine, they’ve been looking elsewhere. Now the company will have rifle caliber options to keep them within the Hi-Point ecosystem.
The pistol will have a pistol-length gas system for the 300 BLK version and carbine-length gas for the 5.56. Both pistol and carbine have free-floated M-LOK rails with standard birdcage flash hiders.
These are, as you’d expect, entirely milspec guns. You won’t get an ambi safety or bolt release lever. But taking it down, the HP-15 looked clean, nicely machined with a nice (if a little heavy) milspec trigger.
Hi-Point is assembling the HP-15 rifles and pistols themselves from sources American parts. Hi-Point tells us the goal is to eventually produce everything themselves.
As you’d expect, the HP-15s will be reasonably priced. MSRP will be under $500. That probably means retail prices at or under $400. In other words, a great first AR for new(er) gun owners. Hi-Point plans to begin shipping in June.
That scope and mount costs more than the rifle. Interesting choice in optics for what is considered a budget option.
This is a saturated market. There are any number of ARs in this price range.
Something tells me Anderson and Radical Arms have nothing to worry about. Sheesh!
How much they want

One thing about Hi Point they stand behind their products. The lifetime transferable warranty is amazing. They make a reliable product, maybe not pretty.I own 6 of there carbines in various calibers, thousands of rounds shot and no malfunction.Wish I could say that about my higher end semi autos.Hunted deer and hogs with them.Had many friends over the years that have also bought them after shooting them and some of those people were gun snobs before.
I must have one! Send me one for testing!
The second amendment is not for rich people only. Hi Point guns kill lots of bad guys. Saving their owners. I love their 45acp semi-automatic. Use to shoot it all the time. Until the ammo prices went through the roof.
Hi Point definitely thinks outside the box.
Putting AR15s into the hands of the middle and lower economic classes, will really help to keep liberal government afraid.
If they’re going to apply their existing warranty/service setup to these, then this is going to represent a good value.

Wow! Hi Point has turned the corner in the industry. Will the AC 300 Black out model offer a full length barrel? I have wanted a blackout upper but for the price it makes more sense to just purchase the whole thing. I have had HiPoint in the past and although it was like carrying a brick with a trigger, it was always reliable and HiPoint always lived up to their warranty. That alone says it all. HiPoint lives up to their work and Word. Please keep us informed on your progress.
I’ll buy one, that lifetime warranty!
I’ll take one right now! I love my .45 ACP carbine…I got it decked out now and will do the same when the AR-15 rifle is released.
Finally! I hope that in a few years they will go on and create a 50 CAL BMG rifle. A Hi Point handgun as a sidearm, a Hi Point AR 15 as a primary long gun and a Hi Point 50 CAL BMG for long range targets.
I have 2 highpoint handguns. I’ve patiently been waiting on this ar platform. I’ve been on the sidelines for 35 years, delivering freight from Calgary Canada to Laredo texas.from Washington state to Miami florida.had a stroke a few years ago and I am gladly, slowly regaining my shooting time and ability and highpoint has been my jumping back in point. Thank you guys for helping me get going again in a sport I love. P.s. 45 carbine also in the mix
