The FAST Way to Learn the 4 Rules of Gun Safety

Our friends at GLOCK have put together this handy video driving home Cooper’s sacred Four Rules of Gun Safety. It’s something all gun owners should know know and that anyone who takes new shooters to the range should be preaching to them early and often.

Not everyone, however, learns the same way. For some, a simple mnemonic that’s easy to remember and absorb works best. When my ball and chain better half got into guns in a serious way, she came up with the FAST acronym, the better to help her ingrain and remember the four key principles.

F   Finger off the trigger (until your sights are on your target)
A   Always loaded (because guns are)
S   Safe direction (keep your pointed that way)
T   Target (know yours and what’s beyond it)

That works for her. If that doesn’t work for you, so be it, but find something that does. Whatever you do, learn the Four Rules and live by them. They’re simple, effective, and could save your life (or the life of someone you know).

And be sure to drill them into any newbies you introduce to guns, okay?

There is is one more rule that I’m pretty sure Cooper would have thought about including if he were alive to see the Biden administration:

Rule 5: If you are a Democrat politician, always clear your gun by pointing it at an anti-gun person and pulling the trigger. If that anti-gun person is you, pull the trigger anyway.

(yeah, a little dark but 🤣)
