Gun owners now have not one, but two excellent choices in organization systems for their long gun case(s). The first out of the gate was Magpul’s innovative DAKA GRID system that replaces the standard foam inserts that’s standard issue in the case you buy. You then place the included sturdy, Lego-like foam blocks wherever you like to cradle and protect the gear you want to tote.
Magpul makes DAKA GRID inserts for a variety of Pelican case models and a couple of Plano cases, too. If you own something different, you’ll be happy to hear that Magpul recently rolled out their new Universal GRID system that let you cut the base grid panels to fit just about any case you like.
The new entrant in the space is Pelican itself. They took a different approach with their Re-Set system. Like Magpul’s GRID design, it’s built on a series of base panels, but then Pelican takes a different approach, Those panels are filled with a series of closely-spaced dense foam pegs. You push the pegs down in the shape of the guns and gear you want to accommodate. It’s infinitely variable and, if you need to change what you’re carrying in your case, you just push the pegs up and reconfigure it for your new loadout.
The Magpul system comes with about a dozen 2- and 3-section blocks. They also sell a range of extra blocks, including specialty shapes like angled blocks and blocks with a moded notch in them to cradle a rifle barrel. They also make plastic bins (think Tupperware) with square “pegs” molded into their base to attach to the GRID base panel and stay put.
The Pelican system doesn’t need additional parts or pegs. The entire field is filled with the pegs, so it’s easy to push them down to make a custom shape for any rifle, magazine, suppressor, rangefinder…whatever you want to carry. The Re-Set system is fairly new. They just started shipping recently and Pelican only makes them for three Pelican case models. It wouldn’t surprise me if more models become available down the road.
As for cost, the base Magpul DAKA GRID system will run you anywhere from about $75 to $125 depending on the version you buy for the case you own. The new DAKA Universal GRID system runs about $100.
The Pelican Re-Set will cost you more. They’re prices from $170 to $230 depending on the model you need. Again, they’re only offering the Re-Set system for three Pelican case models now, but if you own a band saw or Dremel tool, you can probably do a little customization of your own if you want to adapt it to another case made by Pelican or another company.
Is one system better than they other? Not really. It’s mostly a matter of preference. The price of entry is lower for the DAKA GRID system, but adding more blocks or bins would add to that. Both systems are very robust and, if figured well, be far more protective than than the softer, smooshier foam that’s standard in most rifle cases.
Check out the video above and see which concept makes more sense to you (and be sure to watch to the end to see what Jeremy did with the new DAKA Universal GRID system in the DECKED drawer system in the back of his pickup).

Her Body, Her Choice: UCLA Student on Pro-Palestine Hunger Strike Blames School for Being Hospitalized.
“A UCLA student who has been on a pro-Palestine hunger strike has been hospitalized after starving herself for nine days. You’ll recall we earlier told you that her school’s administrators were ignoring her. You’ll never guess who her supporters are blaming for her trip to the hospital – yep, her school.

UCLA Pro-Palestine protester rushed to the hospital after collapsing on Day 9 of her hunger strike.
The protester, ‘Maya’, and her friend are blaming UCLA for her hospitalization and decision not to eat any food.
‘This is what happens when UCLA ignores their students … This is on you, UCLA.’

(note: Stupid is as stupid does. Now, if we could just get them all to stop eating and starve to death.)
I have a smaller Pelican case that I’m really happy with. I would consider the Magpul here because of the price. I haven’t been disappointed by any of their other products.
