It’s funny when gun control advocates try to mislead people by including suicide data, but it’s obvious they’re doing so because they include a state like Wyoming which has very little homicide. As they say, one of these is not like the other.
Suicide by gun is a problem. But it’s not “gun violence” just like a suicide by hanging isn’t “rope violence.” The US suicide rate isn’t abnormally high among first world countries. Guns are just used in suicide more because we have them here.
Elsewhere, other methods are used more. And other countries with legalized assisted suicide hide their true rates by not counting assisted suicides. Canada’s rate is over three times ours when legal suicides are included.
“Gun deaths” is a nonsense measure that includes suicides, which are more correlated with climate than gun availability. If you measure based on homicide instead of trying to mislead with suicides, there’s no correlation like what Martin suggests here.

And another thing they fail to mention, is that, overall, in states with republicans in charge (i.e RED states) that the majority of any gun-violence is in the blue democrat held/dominated/majority-populated areas of the state and when that is excluded, overall, it makes the red states the lowest in gun-violence in the country. Because that happens in blue areas in a state it counts for the states totals which makes it appear that as a state its higher when in reality its the blue democrat areas in the state. You see this deceptively shown sometimes carefully worded as something like ‘Red state cities have highest gun violence rates’ when in reality its a blue dominated cities in the state. Overall, red-state crime problems are often concentrated in blue cities, and red counties have lower murder rates than blue counties.

And in terms of suicide… its a falsely inflated number to begin with as it also includes the ones ruled suicide that were not actually suicides but includes what were really accidents or staged to look like suicide (and in some cases flat out obvious murder incorrectly ruled as suicide). The tendency is to ‘rule as suicide a death because no one else was around to be accounted for at the time to do the killing and natural causes are not obvious’. For example, a person that takes a prescription medication that was filled incorrectly with the wrong medication or wrong dosage (happens more than ya think) dies as a result is ruled as ‘suicide’ initially and is recorded that way and its rare someone will make the connection but the thing about suicide numbers is once its recorded as a suicide if its later found not to have been a suicide that stat is not removed from the suicide stats thus falsely inflating the number of suicides. Its basically the same with gun-suicide (and other methods), many of which are later found to have not been really suicide but rather accidental deaths (i.e. accident with gun, play acting not realizing gun was loaded) or murder-staged-to-look-like-suicide – but the numbers are never removed from the suicide stats.
Then there are the ones ruled suicide that defy all logic and evidence to the contrary, for example, an actual case: A woman is found dead in her home in New York state, stabbed 37 times front and back with 90% of the wounds penetrating vital organs and slicing through arteries any one of which would have caused incapacitation and death either within a few seconds to maybe a couple of minutes, but there is a gunshot wound to the back at the neck where it joins the shoulder area. But only because the house doors were locked its ruled a suicide-by-gun by the ‘medical examiner’ because of the gunshot wound and the gun at the scene despite the gun at the scene not having any trace of the victims blood or DNA on it and no shell casings found at the scene. Yet despite (collectively) 15 other forensics medicine doctors and investigators investigating the case revealing its murder, its still today listed as a suicide-by-gun as the ’cause of death’ and they refuse to change it.
