While control industry groups like Giffords do wha they can to take advantage of the Kirk assassination to push their agenda, it’s time for them to finally be honest and admit that their ultimate goal is and always has been a total gun ban. That’s all that would arguably have stopped a crime using a basic hunting rifle.
Nothing on the policy wishlist they include in their statement after the shooting — opportunistically taking advantage of a tragedy — would have stopped the killer, from everything we know. They also hold up the Minnesota assassination as another example of political violence. But — very inconveniently — that state has all of the gun control measures they claim would have helped.
Giffords gives Utah an “F” it its annual grading system for its lack of gun rights restrictions, despite the fact that the state has the third-lowest homicide rate in the nation.
None of that matters, though. Giffords and the rest of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex couldn’t care less about reducing actual crime or promoting what they cynically call “gun safety.” Their ultimate goal was, is, and always will be total civilian disarmament. They just know they can’t possibly admit that, especially not now. For now.

but while we are on the subject of ‘policy’ and ‘loopholes’…lets talk about the trans school-shooter in Minnesota. The state has some of the toughest gun laws in the country, but a trans killer known to be mentally ill and unstable was able to get a permit-to-purchase firearms and used some of those firearms in the attack. Why was that? It was because the trans-centric protective laws in Minnesota prohibits the medical or mental health records of trans people from being disclosed (even to federal authority) so despite knowing it the permit-to-purchase was issued by the issuing authority because officially the records could not be used to deny it, but for a non-trans person the records are disclosable and could be used to deny a permit-to-purchase. As a result this killer trans was able to go to an FFL and buy guns legally.
But aside from that, there was no ‘policy’ and can not be any ‘policy’ that makes a person to not choose to enact ‘Armed extremism’ – the law and policy can not make a person not exercise free will to enact an act of violence and its always the perpetrators choice to do so.
So, in fact, this statement from Gifford’s is false and ignorant.
There has been ‘Armed extremism’ ever since caveman Ogg discovered he could get something he wanted from, or wanted to dominate, caveman Grogg by arming himself with a rock and using it to bash in Grogg’s brains. And since, with literally multi-millions of laws and ‘policy’ over time this idea that ‘policy’ will keep ‘Armed extremism’ from happening is the same line of BS its been all those literally thousand of years.
