The GLOCK sales ban that seems about to become law in California (AB 1127) was prompted by a 2022 mass shooting in Sacramento that California politicians caused through their own soft-on-crime policies. They let a violent criminal out of prison six years early, due to Proposition 57.
That criminal, a prohibited person, then illegally modified a GLOCK he could not legally possess and used it to murder his rivals in a gang-related shooting. While several suspects were involved in the Sacramento shooting, only one had a modified GLOCK with a full auto switch: Smiley Allen Martin.
He was a prohibited person who in 2018 was sentenced to 10 years in prison for domestic violence. When he was released, it was illegal for him to have any gun, let alone a full auto pistol.
AB 1127 was sponsored by Assembly member Jesse Gabriel. In a press release about his bill, he references the Sacramento shooting in 2022 as prompting him to push the GLOCK ban.
Governor Gavin Newsom and his political allies literally released a violent monster onto our streets, then used the perfectly predictable crimes he committed as pretext to further limit the rights of good, law-abiding people. Now, as a result, law-abiding gun owners are going to be prevented from purchasing America’s most popular handgun.
I am angry at myself for not having put these facts together (it was pointed out by a follower of mine on social media). At this point, only Newsom can stop the GLOCK ban bill with a veto.
In theory, if Newsom — who appears to be getting ready to run for president — overrides the ban, the legislature could override him, but they have not overridden any veto since 1979. So this is entirely Newsom’s call. If he signs the ban into law, I’ll do everything I can to make sure every swing state voter in 2028 knows both that he banned the most popular handguns in the country — Kamala Harris’s gun — and that he supported letting out the violent criminal that was the excuse for the ban in the first place.
So to recap, Gavin Newsom and his party, after convincing California’s foolish voters into backing Proposition 57, let oa vicious monster out of jail six years early. That monster predictably did what monsters do. And now the same politicians are using a vicious crime they enabled as a pretext to ban the sale of the most popular handguns in the country. It’s outrageous.
Gavin Newsom should veto the bill which is still on his desk. It’s literally the least he could do.

I had the opportunity to shoot a full auto glock once. I had a stupid smile on my face for the rest of the day. Full auto Glocks are as hard to control as they are fun/awesome!

Back in the day, I was at an airbase undergoing an annual Inspector General visit. One of the “write-ups” visited upon the unit was a declared failure to perform adequately on the previous inspection. . . .even though all the discrepancies had been corrected and approved by the IG office. The new “write-up” was awarded because we had collected unsatisfactory scores on the previous inspection. Essentially, we were down-rated the preious year, (regardless of the fact corrections had been subsequently made and approved). The comment by the IG team was that it didn’t matter that the corrections had been certified by the IG office, we were guilty of having been awarded failing grades the year prior; circular reasoning at its best.
