Conspicuous Ignorance: NY Governor Hochul Claims Killer’s Concealed Carry Permit Allowed Him to Get an AR-15

It goes to the difference between states’ laws related to gun ownership. In the state of New York, you cannot buy (an AR-15). You have to be over age 18. You cannot have access. I mean, he had a concealed carry permit which allowed him to have this weapon. Much looser laws in the state of Nevada than we have here. 

And so our argument is this: If every state had the same laws uniformly, you could not have a situation where we fight really hard in the state of New York to make sure that we have the toughest gun laws in the nation. …

We want that same sense of urgency to go out across the nation. States like Nevada, every state should do this because right now, we’ve been waiting for the federal government, for Congress to step up (and ban assault weapons). And Republicans in Congress are so intimidated by the gun lobby, or they might have a primary. If they dare stand up and say, “I’m for common sense gun safety laws.”

So you can’t say you’re tough on crime and be soft on guns or weak on guns. It’s just not holding up. 

We need a national awakening here. People should be talking about (an assault weapons ban) once again. And it shouldn’t just happen in the wake of a tragedy like this. It should be an ongoing conversation where we force the Republicans to understand, lives could be saved if you’d only do what’s smart and commonsense.

We had an assault weapons ban in our country for 10 years. It work successfully. It lapsed under President Bush and I say bring that back.

    Back in the day you used to be able to order machine guns and dynamite from the Sears catalog delivered to your door.
    There were no stories of psychos shooting up schools and blowing up their neighbors homes.
    So what changed? Maybe focus on that so we can have both freedom and low crime.

    You mean like when a VIP’s crackhead son commits a gun crime? Do the large cities in NY throw the book at criminals when it comes to gun crimes? I’ve reports of leniency and plea deals for the gun charges when it isn’t a homicide case. Yet, those same prosecutors will go after men defending people in a subway or a CVS. Like the Rittenhouse prosecutor said, “everyone has to take a beating at some point.” Don’t defend yourself. Take your beating if the aggressor has the proper political/demographic characteristics.

    Let’s apply common sense to politicians who repeatedly violate the oat of office in their blatant defiance of the U S Constitution and prosecute them for violating the oath they took to uphold and defend against ALL enemies.

      Common sense definition: Sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts.

      The shades of common sense gun safety laws:

      Gun owner: ‘Its common sense to have a gun to to protect my self from the criminal activity I see in the news and is present all around us in society”

      Hochul: ‘Its common sense to make laws so it will be as difficult as possible for you to have a gun and ban what ever guns I can.’

      I’m pretty sure Hochul’s ‘common sense’ isn’t the same as what it should be.

    This happened in a… Gun Free Zone (why of course it did. But anyway, on the subject of gun free zones, those ‘happy hunting’ grounds supplied by law and politicians to mass/school shooters full of defenseless prey. Mass/school shooters are specifically attracted to such areas but you morons keep making ‘gun free zones’ and disarm people then complain when a mass/school shooter shows up. Its like throwing shark chum in the water, tossing in defenseless people, then complaining when the sharks show up for a bite to eat. Why do you moron democrat politicians keep enabling these mass/school shooters by in effect by law supplying them defenseless prey? Its just what mass/school shooters look for, defenseless targets upon which they can inflict their mental illness killing spree in an area that by law in effect invites them in to hunt defenseless prey?)

    What happened to all those strict laws that New York has that were claimed to be about ‘preventing’ mentally ill people from doing things like this?

As noted above, the trade-off will be making some blue districts even more Democrat-leaning, but that’s a rather irrelevant price to pay. Republicans in the Texas legislature have until August 19th to get the new map over the finish line, and committee hearings are set to begin on Friday.

    Expectedly, Democrats are losing their minds. House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has already ranted about it, and he’s in Austin on Wednesday to meet with his state-level counterparts. Presumably, he will encourage Texas Democrat lawmakers to walk out of the session, denying a quorum, a gambit that was tried back in 2021 to block election reform. Texas Republicans aren’t without options if that occurs, though. Those include arresting the obstructionist Democrats under a state constitution provision and forcing them to appear, or even declaring their seats vacant.

    Meanwhile, some Democrat-led states are threatening to redraw their own maps. That includes Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY). The problem? Both states have legally binding independent commissions, and their constitutions only allow redrawing their congressional maps once every ten years. In other words, it’s not as simple as just calling a legislative session for either governor, no matter how much they bluster.

    As for other deep blue states, they are already gerrymandered to the point of absurdity, and there’s just not anything left to squeeze out of them.     Earlier today, I wrote about Cincinnati’s shame. The shame was not that a group of youths viciously attacked a couple while laughing and filming the event. The acts were cruel and shameful, had these youths been capable of shame, but such attacks can take place in any large city. They are disgusting and symbolic of a sickness in our society, but not necessarily to be blamed on the city fathers.

    No, what was shameful was the Police Chief’s anger at the revelation of the event on social media, and the failure of social media and others’ willingness to look for “context” that might mitigate or explain the event.

    Police had identified five suspects from a violent fight with a crowd of “100 or so people,” at Fourth and Elm streets early Saturday, July 26. Multiple videos of the 3 a.m. fight Downtown circulated on social media over the weekend, raising concerns about safety amid the city’s recent push to reduce crime in its urban core.

    Merriweather was indicted on four felony charges on July 10 after investigators said he was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm. Court records show he is charged with carrying concealed weapons, receiving stolen property, improper handling of firearms in a vehicle and weapons under disability.

    The last charge is due to a prior felony conviction in 2009 for aggravated robbery, the documents state.

    In the weapons case, Merriweather was released after posting 10% of a $4,000 bond.

      The former First Crack Head & Human Trafficker Hunter Biden response to the news that Kamala was not going to run for governor was “That’s interesting.” which oddly was also at times ‘reportedly’ his standard answer any time he did know know what was going on when he was high.

      Harris did not give any indication as to whether she will seek to lose another presidential election in 2028. But anyway, hopefully she will fade into obscurity more than she is now and just dry up and blow away on the wind but that would be pollution.

    Hochul wouldn’t know a true “assault weapon” if she held it. Oh yeah, New York is the paragon of gun safety. How many people are shot in New York every week? It isn’t the gun shooting itself. In states that are more open to personal carry, you have lower rates of gun violence, as no criminal wants to draw a gun if 10 people around them will then draw down on the criminal.
