By Any Means Necessary: Gun Rights Orgs Countering Anti-Gunners’ Worst Instincts

It never ceases to amaze me at the epic level of hypocrisy that comes from the gun-grabbing left. The group that wraps itself so tightly in the safeguards of the Constitution when it comes to defending anything they want and think is not just right but morally right, doesn’t hesitate to abandon those constitutional safeguards when it comes to things they’d like to do away with.

Like guns, for instance.

In today’s edition of The Outdoor Wire, you’ll see two announcements from the Second Amendment Foundation that are case studies in how the well-meaning left so easily—and so comfortably—turn their backs on foundational rights outlined in the Constitution.

The first addresses the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department’s “exorbitant fees and mandated psychological exam associated with applying for a concealed carry permit.”

A psych exam? Really? This is coming from the same “progressive” minds that would fight tooth and nail to prevent a database of mental health records. Well, unless it was used solely to firearm ownership. The issues surrounding mental health exams for carrying a firearm are just a short hop away from a psych exam for owning a firearm, and then an even shorter hop to confiscation.

But that’s not the only peril that comes from going down that road. What happens when women, one of the fast-growing segments of new firearms owners, have to face a psych exam that delves into the legitimate issue of postpartum depression?

One of the symptoms of PPD, though rare, is ‘thoughts of harming oneself or the baby.’ These cases are rare, but they have happened and often made national news.

A system designed to screen the mental health of gun owners would have to address depression, and not just for men. And a law enforcement entity that believes only law enforcement professionals are suited for carrying firearms could easily restrict the rights of those who have not only suffered from depression but also medically treated for it.

This is an extreme example, but one that could actually happen, making it the mother of all unintended consequences for liberal women who might find themselves discriminating against other women in their pursuit of gun control.

And the worst part about this psych exam approach is that the results would end up in a government database, which is problematic for obvious reasons—especially considering how easily such databases get hacked by bad actors.

The second item from SAF addresses the egregious confiscation of firearms from residents of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The idea that a body of government, in this case the mayor’s office, along with the top law enforcement officer of the same city, can unilaterally confiscate private firearms is not only unconstitutional but simply frightening.

More like terrifying when you realize that once they feel comfortable enough to take firearms, any item not specifically called out by name in the Bill of Rights also becomes fair game.

It’s a state of emergency, we’re taking your vehicles. We’re also confiscating any precious metals or gemstones that might be used as an alternate currency. And you can’t do anything about it because we’ve already taken your guns.

Thankfully, SAF and the NRA filed suit against the city and won, immediately halting the confiscation. Later, the two gun rights orgs worked to include a provision in the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act that prohibited the seizure of legally owned firearms during emergencies.

But the left never gives up on grabbing guns. California is on the verge of banning GLOCK pistols through Assembly Bill 1127, should Governor Gavin Newsom sign the bill. The way to stop criminals from misusing legal products is to ban the products, obviously.

GLOCK 43X review

It should be interesting to see how they apply the same approach to gas-powered vehicles when they realize California’s deeply entrenched car culture has a thing for performance mods. And the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the left’s attack on firearms is the Obama Administration’s coercion of banks to stop doing business with the firearms industry. Operation Choke Point sought to debank those businesses considered “high-risk” by the administration.

High-risk is a euphemism for any business that doesn’t agree with the Obama Administration.

  1. “This is coming from the same “progressive” minds that would fight tooth and nail to prevent a database of mental health records.”

Minnesota prevents release of mental health records for trans people. Robert ‘Robin’ Westman, the trans Minneapolis school shooter, like others buying guns in Minnesota, was required to get a ‘permit to buy’ some types of guns before he could buy guns. He got the permit to buy, and the reason he got it was that his mental health records were prohibited by law from being disclosed because he was trans so despite knowing of ‘mental health issues’ existed the issuing authority for the permit could not deny him the permit to buy because they were prohibited from using his mental health records to deny the permit. As a result he was able to legally buy guns for which he needed a permit to buy, some of which were involved in his sick twisted demented far left ideology and self-hatred school shooting. Someone needs to close this Minnesota loophole, especially considering there are hundreds of trans in Minnesota trans heaven that have, since Robert ‘Robin’ Westman did his murdering rampage, expressed the desire for more of the same and threatened to do it.

In the same state, Minnesota, if you are not trans, any mental health record, no matter what its for, can be used to deny you a permit to purchase and such records are disclosable.

But while on the subject of mental health, in the context of ‘depression’ – I had a mental health doc tell me once sort of complaining about the practices of another mental health doc that got his license pulled ‘depression is the easiest thing we diagnose because everyone has a certain amount of depression at one time or another so there is a tendency for a lot of people in my profession to go to asking about depression and some go further and base their whole approach on ‘unresolved depression’ issues and make too much of it and end up missing a lot of more serious issues. Can’t sleep well for a few nights because worried about something? Its depression and its going to get worse!, Throw pills at it and bill the insurance and keep scheduling return visits and keep billing insurance for depressio9n a person doesn’t really have.” – and just like that you have a mental health problem history of ‘depression’.

  2. This stuff can only come to stop when voters start to value their rights over their personal pleasures. The soft easy things. Instead of things that require hard difficulty work and sacrifice.

  3. Just like we always said was happening: Shocker – BLM Activist Admits Turning Donations Into Designer Lifestyle and Vacation Vibes

    New York Post

BLM-linked activist admits conning donors to fund her lavish lifestyle
    …”

[note: this is not the first time this has been exposed. There was an investigation video, three of them actually from different independent investigators, that tracked down the top hierarchy of the BLM movement and tracked the donations and grant money – all three found over 97% of the money went to fund lavish lifestyles for the BLM top hierarchy. BLM was always a scam and still is.]
