Hot-Headed Killer Meets Good Guy with a Gun at Florida Citibank Campus

via X (Hillsborough Co. Sheriff)

Meet Jacob Pearson, 35, of Orlando—the hot-headed loud-mouth who decided a $2,500 credit-card bill he racked up justified turning into the big bad wolf at Citibank.

He called the collections people and unloaded the classic toddler script: cancel the bill or he’d roll up with his his gun. A pure childish temper tantrum from a social misfit who never learned that adult meltdowns sometimes come with actual consequences instead of a timeout.

Told he had to pay his bill, he drove from Orlando and crashed through Citibank’s Brandon campus gate.

Pearson stepped out of his car with shirt open and rifle in hand. He shot 41-year-old employee LeAnne Selmon three times. The rifle jammed—because keeping a gun running is apparently advanced math for a guy whose only skill is ranting—so he waddled back to the car, grabbed a handgun, and executed her while she tried to crawl away.

Then Mr. Manboobs headed into the cafeteria with three magazines on him and the swagger of a man who thought soft targets and softer abs made him unstoppable.

He never counted on someone else bringing a gun and knowing how to use it.

John Fraley, a Marine veteran and Citibank security officer, heard the shots and took a tactical position in a men’s restroom. When the hot-headed loud-mouth came down the hall, Fraley opened fire. Pearson tried to shoot back, but the rounds he soaked up plus his own ineptitude ended the performance.  The would-be killer couldn’t even deploy his rifle’s sights much less operate it correctly. Thankfully. Fraley put five into him.

The would-be mass murderer who spent the morning bellowing over the phone about what a tough guy he was discovered that he had brought a rifle to a fight with someone who actually knew what to do with a gun.

Pearson had the hardware, the hot temper, and the big mouth. He’d spent a lifetime expecting people to freeze or fold. On this day the social misfit with the open jacket and the man-boobs met a trained Marine who had already decided the rampage would stop right there.

Sheriff Chronister called him a hero who stopped a reign of terror before it got far worse. Pearson later died at the hospital, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. A lot of Citibank employees are still alive thanks to Fraley’s quick action.

One good guy with a gun and better skills and tactics turned a self-styled executioner into a cautionary tale about bringing the wrong attitude—and an acute lack of skills—to a gunfight.

🚨 #UPDATE: NEW, HIGHER-QUALITY VIDEO shows the moment Citibank security guard John Fraley takes a tactical position inside a men’s restroom, waiting for the gunman to enter his line of sight.

Fraley, a highly trained Marine Corps veteran and Citibank’s Vice President and Intelligence Lead Analyst, opens fire as 35 year-old gunman Jacob Pearson enters the cafeteria. The two exchange gunfire before Fraley ultimately shoots Pearson five times, ending the attack.

Maybe I’m reading that wrong, but…

Is Fraley, the hero and defender, a Citibank security guard or Citibank’s Vice President and Intelligence Lead Analyst ?
