Nothing good happens after midnight, especially if you’re toting an axe trying to break into homes in rural Alabama. Unlike most big city folks in places like Chicago, New York City and LA, most folks in rural Alabama embrace both gun ownership and their rights. When someone tries to break into homes in God’s country, people get their gun first and their phone second.
In the little town of Uriah, Alabama, an ethically challenged burglary apprentice by the name of Justin Ray thought it was a good idea to break into homes looking for loot. Or maybe a good time. Or both. Instead he ran smack dab into a homeowner who demonstrated first-hand why you don’t bring an axe to a gunfight.
From WALA Fox 13 . . .
In the Eureka Landing community early this morning, a homeowner discharged a firearm in an act of self-defense against a home invader who was armed with an axe, according to the Monroe County sheriff.
Deputies responded to the home shortly after 2:30 a.m., Sheriff Tom Boatwright said. They found the wounded suspect behind the residence.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a resident contacted law enforcement to report that an individual had broken into the home armed with an axe. The homeowner shot the invader, striking the suspect once in the torso, officials said…
Sheriff Boatwright had nothing but praise for the homeowner who acted decisively to protect himself and his family from the axe-wielding hooligan he found in his home.
“We commend the quick response of our deputies and the homeowner’s decision to defend themselves and their loved ones,” Boatwright stated. “Our investigation is ongoing, and we will release additional information as it becomes available.”
After taking a round to the torso, Mr. Ray received some medical care for a few days and Sheriff Tom Boatwright then offered a Facebook update on Mr. Ray’s status following his release from the hospital.
Sheriff Tom Boatwright has announced that Justin Ray, the axe-wielding suspect involved in the recent burglary case, has been released from medical care after being shot by the homeowner and is now in custody at the Monroe County Detention Facility. Ray is currently charged with first-degree burglary.
Sheriff Boatwright stated, “Justin Ray will have a lasting reminder of what happens when you break into someone’s home here in Monroe County. Our hope is that this serves as a clear warning to anyone contemplating such actions.
It’s important to remember that this isn’t just about property, it’s about the lives and the affect it has on the victims and their families. Justin Ray’s actions have left a permanent impact on the homeowner and their loved ones, and we ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Ray is scheduled to appear before the court for his initial bond hearing in the coming days. Sheriff Boatwright also urges residents to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhoods. If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it. Together, we can help keep Monroe County safe for everyone.
Note the sheriff asking folks to keep Ray’s victims in their thoughts and prayers, not the two-bit criminal. Who doesn’t love a happy ending?
“Justin Ray’s actions have left a permanent impact on the homeowner and their loved ones, and we ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
This is where sympathy should be expressed and applied. Butt too often the left and the media misapplies sympathy. The bad guy deserves to pay his debt to the victim(s) and society. Any sympathy for the bad guy should be for good luck with rehabilitation.
Any sympathy for the bad guy here was in the rounds not being fatal. So he already got his allotment of sympathy.
Yes, dude should have double-tapped Mr. Axe. Given us a taxpayer relief shot.
…”2:30 a.m.”…
So make it one for my baby and one more for the road.
For the record, a head shot would have been decisive.
I can’t see leaving these perps alive. Keeping them in prison costs $50K a year. When they recover they’ll sue you, and when they get out, they’ll come after you – if their relatives haven’t already. Just whack em. #RangeTime.
