What’s Behind the Steep Decline in Mass Shootings in America?

I hate to discuss any apparent “pause” in mass shootings, because it feels like that’s tempting fate. However, it’s hard not to notice that, for unexplained reasons, both mass shooting attempts and mass shooting deaths are way down since the start of last year.

I don’t know what explains this. Maybe it’s just random chance. While there has been a steep reduction in overall homicide lately, usually that sort of crime is uncorrelated with mass shootings, which makes sense, given the very different root causes of each.

It’s important not to pop the champagne too early here. 2014 was a similarly good year, as was 2020 (with lockdowns, schools closed), but both reductions were fleeting. Still, here’s hoping something fundamental has shifted and the era of frequent mass shootings comes to a close.

  1. Easy answer: Dems need mass killings to push gun control. Now that their puppet is out of the White House, they can’t use the killings to push that agenda. It’s not hard.

  2. Same reason Bud Light sales are still hurting.

Once a certain demographic gets involved all the cache just melts away.

  3. Chris T in KY

The firearms news media has documented many times when a good guy with a gun, has stopped a mass shooter.

The recent attempted massacre of children in a church in Ohio. Was stopped by the church security team. And eli dickens in indiana at a shopping center, also shot and killed a criminal with an AR 15 rifle.

More and more people are getting guns and carrying them with them. And they are getting the training that goes along with carrying a firearm.

The mentally disturbed know that it is now more difficult, to get away with murdering crowds of people at one time.

Perhaps they will go back to using trucks or cars to run over people, instead of using guns???

  4. Any psychological operation has certain life cycle. Initially, everyone will be interested and shocked. After a while, the same story that people used to read every word of on the internet and talk about at work soon becomes routine, and fades into the background of the average person’s life. Unless some new twist is added, like a tranny shooter or a little 13 yr old red headed girl shooter, no one much notices. The only thing left to do at that point is to back off on the frequency of the staged events and get everyone back to a normal baseline. In the mean time, you can run other psy-ops like, “are we on the brink of nuclear war!?!…AAHH!!” and catch the public’s attention that way. You can restart the shooter thing after a few years, if necessary, and get some new traction with it. Anything, ANYTHING, to keep us all afraid and unbalanced, so we don’t look at our governors and revolt.
