We all know how Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns crew advocates relentlessly for gun control for the little people. Yet these same mayors keep getting popped for—you guessed it—illegally possessing guns? Well, hold their beer, because the University of New Hampshire just dropped a sequel. You can’t make this stuff up.
Enter Steven Lee, the 50-year-old Chief of Police at the University of New Hampshire. He recently testified that college students absolutely shouldn’t be trusted with guns on campus. Reason? “They’re too drunk,” he said. The gun control advocate, using his professional position as Chief of Police — advocating that New Hampshire protect the kids by keeping them disarmed. Assume they’re constantly intoxicated and irresponsible.
Fast-forward to present day: Chief Lee — badge, gun, and all — was pulled over in Portsmouth at almost 1 a.m. (Pro-tip for the chief: nothing good happens after midnight.)
Chief Steven Lee was (allegedly) hammered enough to earn himself a pair of shiny bracelets and a DUI charge. He’s now on paid administrative leave (because of course it’s paid), has plead not guilty, and a trial set for March.
Way to lead by example, Chief. Nothing says “students are too intoxicated to handle adult responsibility” like getting busted for driving like a freshman after last call.
The irony here is so delightfully thick you could spread it on toast and enjoy it with a big cup of schadenfreude.
The UNH police chief testified against campus carry because he thought college kids were too drunk. Steven Lee was just arrested for DUI. You can’t make this up!

Again, the Chief got himself a paid vacation. And termination may not even be in the works. Especially if he successfully completes an alcohol treatment program. The Concord Monitor has the story . . .
The University of New Hampshire’s police chief has been suspended with pay after he was arrested for driving under the influence last week.
Steven Lee, 50, was arrested in Portsmouth after midnight on Jan. 22, according to court documents. UNH has launched an internal investigation into the matter and placed Lee on paid administrative leave, according to university spokesperson Tania DeLuzuriaga.
The university has appointed Captain Mark Collopy to serve as interim chief pending the outcome of the investigation and criminal charges against Lee.
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person.
