Ilhan Omar Voted to Ban Guns, Now Cops Found Lots of Them in Her Son’s Apartment

Ilhan Omar has spent years explaining that ordinary Americans can’t be trusted with guns, magazines, or their Second Amendment rights without a thick stack of new restrictions. She voted to ban semi-automatic firearms and standard capacity magazines. She backed a ban on private transfers of guns.

Omar also loves hers some red flag laws and has repeatedly held up Australia’s confiscatory model as the standard to which America should aspire. “Weapons of war have no place on our streets,” she said while pushing a gun ban. Message received.

Then Minneapolis police, according to law-enforcement sources, raided the apartment where her son Adnan Hirsi lives, hauling away guns and ammunition, and arresting his roommate.

The roommate is Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. The official police version starts small and then gets more interesting. A traffic stop. No license. No proof of insurance. A gun was discovered and the car impounded. Basically a rolling disaster if he hits your car with your family in it.

Well, surprise, surprise as Gomer Pyle might say.

Of course, being a bastion of law and order, Abdi was cited and released. He was booked in Hennepin County on a weapons charge and walks out Wednesday night. But the police executed a warrant and searched his apartment, where he lives with Omar’s son.

More guns and ammo were found Police have confirmed Abdi’s arrest, but not the son’s living arrangement in their press release. They also haven’t said that Adnan was charged with anything.  Details matter, even when the irony and local law enforcement are doing cartwheels and backflips.

Abdi isn’t a first-timer who took a wrong turn. Court records cited in reporting give him a pile of prior convictions, including a 2024 felony for fleeing from police after a 108 mph car chase. For risking countless lives while fleeing, the tough-on-crime local prosecutors got him for…get this…exactly one day in jail and two years probation. You would think he’s part of a protected class or something.

Now present day, we have a convicted felon rolling around Minneapolis with a gun in the car. That’s not a “whoopsie, I forgot my insurance card” moment. That’s the exact category of person that gun control bills Ilhan Omar signs on to claim to be targeting.

The charge on the books so far is a local weapons case. Whether prosecutors climb the ladder to felon-in-possession is their decision. The optics are already bad for Omar and the local prosecutors.

Which brings us to the old line about becoming the average of the five people closest to you. Omar’s public brand is lecture-the-country-about-guns. Her son’s roommate is a multi-conviction bad guy who, police say, was in possession of a firearm in his vehicle and a whole lot more at home. Were any of them Abdi’s? We’ll probably never know.

The internet will now drag out the decade-old claim that Omar married her brother to illegally immigrate to America. “Fact-checkers” have repeatedly called that allegation unfounded and unsupported by public records. Repeating it as settled fact is sloppy.

What is settled is her voting record on guns and the sequence of this week’s raid, stop, warrant execution and arrest. Those things sitting in the same orbit is a joke that writes itself. Bans and lectures for thee, a roommate with a rap sheet and an passel of guns for me. That works if you have the right friends….until the cops with a search warrant show up on Marquette Avenue.
