As opening arguments in his murder trial were set to start, Highland Park parade shooter Robert Crimo III changed his plea to guilty in a Waukegan, Illinois courtroom today. Crimo opened fire on a crowd of people at an Independence Day parade through the Illinois town in 2022.
Crimo had rejected a plea deal least year, but as WGN reports . . .
“Let me be clear, this was not a negotiation, this was not a deal,” [Lake County State’s Attorney Eric] Rinehart told reporters after the hearing at the county courthouse in Waukegan. “He made a free decision to plead guilty to every single count. He received nothing in exchange for this plea today.”
Crimo took an “open plea” in the case against him. In doing so, he avoids trial and allows a judge to sentence him without a prior agreement from prosecutors on what sentence they’d recommend. A defendant will sometimes reject an offer or deal in hopes of receiving a lesser sentence from the judge as opposed to what the prosecution might seek.
“This is no agreement whatsoever. He pleaded guilty to every single count,” Rinehart said. “He walked into the courtroom through his attorneys, who are incredibly experienced defense attorneys who have represented him for years.”
Crimo, who wore women’s clothes during the shooting to, he claimed, blend in with the crowd, pleaded guilty to 21 counts of first degree murder — three for each of the seven people he killed — and 48 counts of attempted murder. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in April.
And a quick hanging should follow
“And a quick hanging should follow”
It likely won’t, but that’s OK, never seeing freedom again for that doofus-looking creep will do for me…
I’m in favor of a quick hanging too. Why should he get to live when seven innocent people can’t? It’s a shame hard labor isn’t a thing any more. If chumbucket is going to be allowed to live, he should have to earn his room and board. None of this three meals a day, clean clothes, a dry bed, healthcare, education, a gym, TV, and a place to hang out all day with fellow criminals all at taxpayer expense. Hard labor 7 days a week until he croaks.
i have faith in those “fellow criminals” once he’s placed with the general community. with so few degrees of separation, someone in there knew someone personally.
drawn and quartered comes to mind.
7 people are killed but he has 21 counts of murder? Maybe I need a law course?
New one for me so should make for interesting reading.
Well Trump somehow got 34 felony counts because his accountant listed a payment to his lawyer under legal fees instead of blackmail payoffs. It’s a new world.
That poor bastard Trump got sentenced to the oval office for 4 years.
Inhumane.
Having to deal with the screeching commies (yes yes bought out by other big business and banks) I can only give you partial credit for sarcasm.
“That poor bastard Trump got sentenced to the oval office for 4 years.”
I’m absolutely *loving* how he’s learned from his first four years and is applying, with *vigor*, what he’s learned, starting with choosing a team highly motivated to put this country back on track with the founder’s initial intent.
And all they can do is sit there, take it, and SEETHE with bitter hatred… 🙂
Apparently there are a few agencies here in NY that have weekly crisis meetings to review changes brought on by federal restructuring. Don’t have time to listen in but my counterpart over at the health department is having a good time especially since RFKjr got in.
get rid of the ‘ExplodingBrands’ spammer posts.
Now the DOJ needs to take up the case and go for the death penalty.
