In the halls of Pauls Valley High School in rural Oklahoma the unthinkable almost happened earlier this month. Just-released video shows just how bad it could have been. In this small town of just 6,200 souls, evil came calling on an ordinary April afternoon in the form of a pathetic twenty-year-old social misfit.
Obsessed with the Columbine killers, this deranged nobody dreamed of his own twisted infamy: a Columbine-style massacre to etch his worthless name in the headlines. Armed with two semiautomatic pistols stolen from his father’s closet and driving his father’s truck, the would be killer entered when someone pushed open the main lobby door for him. No locked barriers or check-in protocols to keep the wolves at bay. Because in a decent small town where folks still believe in hard work, community, and raising kids right, you don’t expect a mass murder spree.
As if lunatics call ahead to schedule their spree shooting appointments.
But Hawkins didn’t count on Principal Kirk Moore.
The moment shots rang out in the lobby on April 7, the 35-year veteran educator didn’t freeze, hide, or wait for backup. With raw courage, Moore charged straight at the armed gunman like a man possessed by duty and love for his students.

Surveillance video captured the breathtaking moment: Moore, a big fella, exploded from a hallway, slamming into the 20-year-old coward, driving him onto a bench, and pinning him in a desperate, life-or-death grapple even after the loser fired and wounded Moore in the leg.
Another staff member ambled in and took the weapon away. Thanks to Moore’s lightning-fast heroism, the would be killer was stopped cold. No dead students shot. No faculty massacre. Just one injured hero who’s now recovering at home, no doubt buried in thank you cards from well-wishers across the nation. The sniveling failure, desperate for fame, is facing a $1 million bond and charges for shooting with intent to kill.
In an era of soft expectations and endless excuses, Kirk Moore risked everything to protect the children entrusted to him, later crediting instincts, training, and God’s hand.
Small towns like Pauls Valley shouldn’t have to harden their schools against deranged killers, but we live in a world where that’s important. Doors must be secured. Laminates should be installed at entrances.

Because losers like Victor Lee Hawkins always seek the soft targets. Principal Moore probably didn’t just stop one attack, he reminded us that true heroes still walk among us. America owes him a debt of gratitude. Double his salary. Build a statue. And lock every damn school door.
From CBS News:
Newly released surveillance video shows an Oklahoma high school principal tackling a gunman in the school’s lobby.
Seconds after the suspect opened fire at Pauls Valley High School last week, principal Kirk Moore is seen racing into the hallway. Moore pushes the gunman onto a bench and holds him down before another staffer helps kick the weapon away.
“We’re about a population of 6,200 people. Good kids, good community. Certainly don’t expect these type of situations to happen in your town,” said Pauls Valley Police Chief Don May.
Moore, an educator for 35 years, was shot in the leg and airlifted to a nearby hospital. No one else was injured in the shooting.
“He got up like the rest of us to go to work and who dreamed this was going to happen? So I just want to say thank you,” said Lindel Fields, the Oklahoma superintendent of public instruction.
In a statement, Moore credited his “instincts and training, as well as God’s hand” for helping him subdue the threat. He said he looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible so that he can continue his “life’s work educating the next generation of Oklahoma leaders.”

Accused Pauls Valley gunman planned to carry out Columbine-inspired shooting, documents say
”
…
Victor Hawkins, 20, appeared in a Garvin County courtroom on Wednesday, one day after he shot Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore in the lobby of the school. Hawkins told a judge that he had every intention of going inside the school to shoot students, faculty and then himself.
He … wanted to carry out what happened in Columbine.

I hope we never hear of this scumbag’s name again.
I realize that reports are almost obligated to name them, but it galls me that any recognition is given to fuel their twisted ambitions.
Where is the anti-gun groups praise of this hero that saved lives?
Where is the anti-gun groups praise for the thousands of ordinary law abiding citizens who save lives every year by use of their firearms?
Isn’t that what the anti-gun groups say they are about, saving lives?
