NRA has often reported on failed “gun buyback” programs in cities across the country as being worse than useless. Unfortunately, for some, these programs have led to even more dangerous and life-threatening consequences.
While the Chicago Police Department “gun turn-in program” website states that “all guns are destroyed and never returned to the streets,” that wasn’t the case for Twanda Willingham. Ms. Willingham recently filed suit against the City of Chicago and others after she was shot with a GLOCK 21 .45 caliber handgun that had been relinquished to Chicago police at a gun turn-in event in December 2023. The same firearm that was used to shoot Ms. Willingham was then used in at least two other shootings before being discovered on a 16-year old boy months later, as we reported back in April of this year.
According to the recently filed lawsuit, after the firearm was transferred to the tactical team office following the turn-in event, the GLOCK “disappeared” in a room full of police officers. In the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that a tag identifying the GLOCK had been hidden on a different firearm.
The tag that should have accompanied the GLOCK was later found in the trash, evidence of a purposeful theft and cover-up to make it more difficult to track the firearm or its recovery. Further adding to the drama, the officer who was listed on those inventory records was later shot and killed by a fellow tactical team officer in what the police department labeled a friendly fire accident during a police pursuit.
No one was ever charged in any of the three crimes in which the wayward GLOCK was used and the police sergeant who supervised the gun turn-in event where the firearm disappeared was suspended for one day for “failure to adequately secure and care for department property.”

In a city with some of the harshest and most restrictive gun control laws in the nation, the bottom line is that a criminal got a hold of a firearm due to its apparent theft by a police officer. That was facilitated, ironically, by an event supposedly designed to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals.
Sadly, this wasn’t an isolated event for the city of Chicago, nor for other states. A similar situation unfolded previously in Chicago, where another firearm that was to be inventoried and destroyed following a turn-in event was later found next to the body of a man shot and killed in a police-involved shooting.
Public safety isn’t enhanced by gun “turn-in” programs and certainly not in Chicago. For over three decades now, researchers from all sides of the gun policy debate appear to agree on the ineffectiveness of firearm turn-in events in reducing violent crime. In fact, some statistical and anecdotal evidence shows that they can be considered counterproductive and downright dangerous.
Local efforts like Chicago’s gun “turn-in” program certainly contribute to perpetuating an official anti-gun orthodoxy by local government entities. But they also continue to serve as socially engineered distractions to the honest conversations needed on real public safety measures, which now should include accountability for government officials involved in the sort of debacles alleged in Ms. Willingham’s suit.

I hope she wins and the jury adds at least 2 zeros. That’ll teach the city how costly a “buy back” can be.
I second that !!
Ever seen Training Day or 16 Blocks? Both over the top but in a case like this makes you go Mmmmm……..

Court Rules Cops Can’t Stop-and-Frisk You For [‘thinking’ you are] Carrying A Gun. (note: cant use the excuse they ‘thought’ you ‘might’ be carrying a firearm.)
(colion) “A federal court just said what we’ve been yelling for years: carrying a gun—legally—isn’t a crime, and it’s not a reason to stop you.
This ruling out of the Fifth Circuit is a direct hit on the idea that “suspicion” of a firearm equals probable cause. In United States v. Wilson, a deputy U.S. marshal stopped a man simply because he thought he saw a “bulge” in his waistband. No warrant. No criminal activity. Just a hunch.
The court’s response? That’s unconstitutional.
In this video, I break down why this case matters, how it could reshape stop-and-frisk policies across America, and why suspicion-based policing is a slippery slope that puts all of our rights at risk.”

We Won’t Get Caught: The Latest Russian Collusion Doc Involving Adam Schiff…
”
…
Schiff called a staff meeting, told everyone he was going to leak classified intelligence to harm Trump, someone pointed out that’s treason, other staffers said not to worry about it because they won’t get caught…
…
A Democratic whistleblower told the FBI that Adam Schiff approved leaking classified information in order to discredit President Donald Trump, according to newly-released documents.
The documents, which were obtained by Just The News, were recently handed over to Congress by FBI Director Kash Patel.
The whistleblower reportedly worked for Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee for over ten years, and reported Schiff’s alleged behavior to the FBI in 2017.
According to the report, the intelligence staffer called the leaking “treasonous” and “illegal,” in addition to being unethical. He was most recently interviewed by the FBI in 2023.
The staffer also said that he personally attended a meeting where Schiff greenlit the leak.
‘When working in this capacity, [redacted staffer’s name] was called to an all-staff meeting by SCHIFF,’ the documents state, per Just The News.
[…]
‘[The whistleblower] stated this would be illegal and, upon hearing his concerns, unnamed members of the meeting reassured that they would not be caught leaking classified information,’ the report added.

Whistleblower: The Russiagate Hoax Was a Schiff-Approved Smear from the Start.
“A veteran career intelligence officer who spent more than a decade working for Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee repeatedly warned the FBI—beginning in 2017—that then-Rep. Adam Schiff had personally approved leaking classified information to smear then-President Donald Trump over the now-debunked Russiagate hoax.
Schiff became the face of the Trump-Russia collusion narrative, shamelessly reading the discredited Steele dossier into the congressional record and falsely claiming to have seen intelligence proving Trump’s guilt—claims that were pure fiction.

Armed Robbery Victim Defends Himself in St. Louis Park Shootout — Victim and Both Suspects Shot in the Legs.
“ST. LOUIS, MO — A robbery in Amberg Park turned into a shootout Tuesday evening, leaving the victim and both suspects with gunshot wounds.
According to St. Louis police, the incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on August 5 in the city’s Bevo Mill neighborhood. A man in his 30s told officers he was sitting in the park when two armed men approached and robbed him at gunpoint, taking his backpack.
After surrendering the bag, the victim drew his own firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. During the shootout, the victim was struck in the leg. He reported hearing the suspects yell that they had been hit before fleeing the scene.
While police were investigating, two men in their twenties arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds to their lower legs. Detectives determined they were the same suspects involved in the robbery. Both were listed in stable condition.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed two firearms and the victim’s stolen backpack. The suspects remain in police custody while receiving medical treatment. Charges are pending. The victim was also hospitalized in stable condition.
This incident highlights the extreme danger of drawing a firearm when an attacker already has a gun pointed at you — a situation known as drawing from the drop. In this case, the decision to engage led to gunfire, and all involved were wounded. When facing such a threat, the attacker already has the advantage. Firearm owners should train not only in marksmanship but also in recognizing high-risk moments like this and understanding the potential consequences before taking action.”

I have a feeling the decent guns always disappear.
She should ask for more. Stupidity should be costly.
What if gun “buy back” programs just create a black market for the government to resell those weapons to others and hide the profits that they make for other nefarious purposes?
As a retired police detective, I would encourage Chicago PD make a real effort to identify the officer or evidence room tech who last handled the pistol and polygraph his/her ass. There is no room for corrupt cops, except perhaps in a 5 X 8 jail cell.
