Trump Administration Brags They’ve Cut DC Carry Permit Issue Times From Months to Days

Back in March, the then-new Trump 2.0 administration created something they called the Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful Task Force. The group was charged with implementing policies aimed at “preventing crime, punishing criminals, preserving order, protecting our revered American monuments, and promoting beautification and the preservation of our history and heritage” in the capital city.

The White House gave the task force a laundry list of goals, but among those aimed at addressing the persistent crime problem in the District was this:

(v) collaborating with appropriate local government entities to provide assistance to increase the speed and lower the cost of processing concealed carry license requests in the District of Columbia;

While we haven’t heard much from the task force, it seems that they’ve been beavering away behind the scenes and making progress. Fox News reports today that . . .

The concealed carry permitting process and firearm registration process in the deep blue city have been slashed from months down to days via Trump’s Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which was established via an executive order in March to revitalize the nation’s capital. The working group’s work to clean up the city did not include changing local gun laws, but instead streamlines the city’s already established process, so law-abiding residents can more easily navigate the firearms system.

“President Trump is not only stopping violent crime in Washington, D.C., he is also streamlining the permitting process for law-abiding residents who want the ability to protect themselves and their families,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told Fox News Digital. “The Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force has been working with local officials to eliminate longstanding obstacles and successfully reduced the average permit processing time from several months to just five days.”

Under the task force’s efforts, locals are able to book next-day appointments to register their firearms with the Metropolitan Police Department, while walk-in appointments are now available and advertised on the police department’s website.

Previously, applicants typically waited four months for a firearms registration appointment, a White House official told Fox Digital.

The concealed carry permit process also has been streamlined, Fox Digital learned. What used to take “several months” to obtain a concealed carry permit, has been cut down to 4.6 days, according to data compiled during the month of May by the task force, which the White House shared with Fox News Digital.

The process has reportedly also been simplified to make reduce the bureaucratic confusion DC residents have to cut through in order the exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Of course, the District still takes every opportunity to make life as difficult as they possibly can for gun toters.

Washington, D.C., has some of the most strict gun laws in the nation, including requiring permitted concealed carry holders to re-apply for their license every two years, a ban on most semi-automatic rifles, and ammunition restrictions that ban an individual from possessing ammo for a firearm not registered with the Metropolitan Police Department. The District also has an extensive list of gun-free zones, including public memorials on the National Mall, public transportation, government buildings, schools and colleges, hospitals and medical offices, stadiums and anywhere alcohol is sold.

The task force is apparently still working to improve things . . .

The working group established by the executive order is exploring options to broaden firearm access in the city, such as permitting female concealed carry holders to carry firearms in their handbags as opposed to rules requiring firearms be strapped to a person’s body, Fox Digital learned.

The working group is also looking at options that would permit concealed carry on public transit, and to kick off reciprocity for concealed carry permits from other states, but such changes would require the D.C. City Council approval.

City Council approval? Good luck with that.

      1. What is noteworthy about this development is that it marks the first time in the history of the 9th Circuit a panel of this court has invalidated a gun control measure under the Second Amendment without the full court subsequently reversing or modifying the decision en banc.

  1. The Real Life First Aggressor, And Why He’s Going to Prison.

the First Aggressor Standard. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses a case which just occurred a few miles from our studio on the Seattle waterfront. Today we take a look at a man, who somehow thought he was the Stolen Valor Police and confronted a disabled veteran.

  2. My buddy, Grumble, used to print and laminate some impressively realistic Federal gun permits. They even had a fake signature from ‘The National Director of Firearms and Explosives’. Grumble used to hand these out at Farmers Markets and parades, explaining that the government has finally ratified the second Amendment and wants all citizens to know they have the right to own and carry a gun. Of course, someone complained and Grumble was visited once by local LEOS and once by the State Troopers. So, no more free gun permits.

    1. Its not illegal to print ‘Federal gun permits’ or present them or pass them out in any context as long as you do not ‘counterfeit’ (an actual document, including altering), present, or portray them as an actual government document or legal instrument.

  3. I’m not tired of winning.

We will always have law enforcement. The only question is, what form will it take?

The democrat run cities have terrible police departments. You should not have to put military troops on the streets. But the democrats want the chaos. So yes, so far Trump has done the right thing.

And so far the use of the military has not resulted in the massacre of hundreds of DC residents. I’m glad the military is being used in DC.

And yes I know the white libertarians, white liberals, and white leftists, all who don’t live in DC, they all don’t like Trump.

As usual those white people are telling others what to do. The white three L’s don’t live anywhere near, where these crime areas are.

It’s a wonderful thing to see a republican president responsible for more black people, and everyone else, getting their gun permits faster.

    Big(smile)

    Btw
An open secret is the liberal black leadership doesn’t want lower class black people to have legal guns.

It upsets their white liberal pay masters.

  4. When I got my Maryland CC permit, I was also going to get my DC license, but they required an in-person visit on a tight schedule with parking nearby difficult at best and if you’re slightly late you have to reschedule….. Decided just to stay in Maryland due to the almost impossible rules DC also applies: No more than 10 bullets, felony offense for each bullet over 10, as well as the difficulty in carrying anywhere I’d want to go.

  5. Repeal “Home Rule.” If only we could take all of our cities back from Democrats, but at least we can take this one.

  6. How about a National Reciprocity Law! I live in VA and used to live in the DMV. I avoid DC simply because I have to leave my pistol at home just to go there. Many times I’m around the DMV and I ‘go the long way’ and skip businesses and restaurants in DC or on the border simply because I’m carrying.
