When [Walmart knife attack suspect Bradford] Gille fled out to the parking lot, [Derrick] Perry, along with others, dropped his groceries and surrounded the alleged attacker.
Perry, a hospital worker, pulled out his gun, but did not shoot Gille — even though he said others were calling on him to pull the trigger.
“Unfortunately, there was kinda like a mob mentality and some very disturbing things were being said on how to deal with the situation,” Perry said.
“I had to block all of that out and focus on him [Gille] because … I ultimately just wanted him to put the knife down and back away until law enforcement got there,” he went on.
“I did not see myself as any type of judge, jury or executioner. I just wanted everyone to be safe.”
Gille was rambling and appeared out of his mind, Perry recalled.
“I could see it in his eyes that he was wild-eyed and he did not look like he was in his right mind,” he said. “And he was saying, ‘They told me to do it. They told me to do it. And call 911.’
“I said they are on their way. They are coming,” said Perry, who described how he worked to de-escalate the situation.

And had that attacker not backed off and ceased under the pressure of being confronted Derrick would have probably shot him.
Deescalation success or failure depends upon the bad guys willingness to go along with being convinced in some way to cease their activity and basically ‘surrender’. In short, the choice belongs to the bad guy not the defender.
And that’s why ‘criminal acts’ happen – choice. The bad guy no matter if a mentally ill mass-stabber/slasher or a mass/school shooter or a robber or a car jacker or a murderer or a rapist or any other sort of person enacting a crime-with-purpose, they made the choice to do that. Choice is why laws do not work to prevent such criminal acts, why gun-control does not work to prevent criminal acts, why gun-free zones do not work to prevent criminal acts – because the criminal act perpetrator can make the choice to commit the criminal act and the who-what-when-where-how using what ever means or implements they want to use. Its not about the gun or knife or whatever they use, its about their choice to do it for what ever reason they selected or what ever drives them to do it.
Do not assume deescalation is going to work so it should not be a ‘primary tactic’ that a defender is locked into as being the only thing to do, there should be a means to stop the attacker definitively.
Thousands of people every year depend upon de-escalation in some form to protect them or others. It could be a warning about calling 911, it could be pepper spray or hand-to-hand-combat, it could be trying to talk the bad guy into not doing it, it could be trying to flee or barricade, it could be multiple people confronting the bad guy, it could be complying, it could be begging, it could be an over-whelming show of force or resistance, it could be holding the bad guy at gun point. Any action persons/people take to end the event so they or others are not harmed is a form of deescalation – and thousands of people, including police officers and ‘self-satisfying peace makers’, trying deescalation are still seriously injured, some killed, every year.
When deescalation fails because the bad guy chooses to not acquiesce or give-up or surrender or stop, and you have nothing else after that then you or someone else is going to suffer the effects of that bad guys choice. Do not gamble that deescalation is always going to work. Yes, deescalation can possibly work but relatively overall there are very few situations in which it does – but remember, do not assume you have control of the situation by trying deescalation because the choice is still up to the bad guy and that choice happens at the speed-of-thought so be prepared stop the bad guy definitively. There is a reason police officers keep a violent offender at gun point or still have weapons drawn when they try deescalation – they know the choice to continue violence is still up to the bad guy and that choice happens at the speed-of-thought.
But, the defender here allowed the bad guy to make the choice to stand down, ignoring the mob who didn’t want the bad guy to have that choice.

This is the reason why we say “to stop a threat by using a gun”. As Dr John Lott has proven in his book “More Guns Less Crime.”
Over 2 million times a year a gun is used to stop a criminal. And the trigger is never pulled.
But if you brandish your sidearm, you need to be prepared to pull it out and pull the trigger if that doesn’t work.
The bottom line is you want the criminal to stop hurting you and the others. And lawyers are expensive. And a liberal DA might very well hate you for using a gun in this situation.

One you maybe did not hear about: Transgender Trinity Shockley – was arrested February 13, 2025, one day before Shockley could carry out the plan for a school shooting on February 14, Valentine’s Day. Shockley planned to carry out the attack on February 14, Valentine’s Day at at Mooresville High School. Shockley had an emotional attachment to Nikolas Cruz the parkland killer, and like all school shooters in the last 40 years had studied media coverage of past mass/school shootings, and was especially being interested in the anti-gun presentation of details and methods they expose in their sensationalize coverage which had convinced Shockley to basically steal and use a gun instead of the other methods considered to ensure being remembered because such events with other than a gun are not as sensationalized by the media and anti-gun. Shockleys’ dad had an AR-15 but it was not stored in the home, its not clear how but apparently Shockley had discovered where the rifle was and was going to steal it to use in the school shooting and had indicated ready access by stealing it. Shockley reveled in a Discord chat that the shooting would be “Parkland part two,” and that it had been planned for a year. Fortunately, someone in the chat alerted law enforcement. Shockley was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, intimidation and conspiracy to commit intimidation.
and its not just the U.S. – in gun-control U.K.: Transgender Felix Winter was just sentenced to 6 years for plotting a school shooting (and had wanted to do it at another school as well). Winter was Pro-Nazi and “idolized” the killers in the Columbine School massacre here in the U.S.. Like all school shooters in the last 40 years Winter had studied (the U.S.) media coverage of past mass/school shootings, and was also especially interested in the anti-gun presentation of details and methods they expose. Winter had also planned to use pipe-bombs.
Presently (last tracking count this past Monday) in (combined) Tik-Tok and Discord posts, there are approximately 2,373 trans people (or claiming to be trans), that have indicated or stated they were planning mass/school-killing incidents by some means.
But aside from Trans crazy, how about the mass stabbings this year you may not have hear about – yes, we know about the walmart incident recently – but what about others this year 2025 so far:
Denver, Colorado – On 11 and 12 January, four people were stabbed on the vicinity of the 16th Street Mall. A 24-year-old was arrested in connection of the stabbings.
Miami, Florida – On 16 January, two homeless people were killed and two others were injured in an attack. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested.
Washington, D.C, – On April 3, a man stabbed himself multiple times before stabbing and injuring six bystanders in a stabbing rampage near Gallaudet University in Trinidad, Washington, D.C.. A suspect that was under the influence of drugs was arrested.
New York City, New York – On April 6, four children were stabbed and injured with a meat cleaver inside of a house in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York, United States. The perpetrator was shot and critically injured by responding officers.
Perry, Georgia – On April 6, a person stabbed three adults and a child to death at home. A suspect who authorities believed knew the family was arrested.
Los Angeles, California – On April 12 five people, three critically, were stabbed in the Resida neighborhood of Northwest Los Angeles.
Chicago, Illinois – On May 3, seven people were injured in a stabbing attack and fight on a lawn.
Santa Ana, California – On May 7, one student was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing attack outside the entrance of Santa Ana High School in Orange County. The suspects were later arrested.
Riverside, California – On May 12, five people were stabbed and injured, including one critically, at a sober living facility in Riverside. The suspect was a resident at the facility that stabbed his roommates and barricaded himself before surrendering to officers.
Salem, Oregon – On June 1, eleven people were stabbed and injured at a homeless shelter in Salem.
Macon, Georgia – On June 5, one inmate, 22-year-old Breele Jahiem Johnson, was stabbed and killed while four other inmates ranging from 19 to 40-years-old were injured during an altercation inside the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center jail in Macon.
Nobody wants to talk about the tr@nsf0rmerz or h0.m.0sez.uals shooting up groups of adults and children.
And they don’t want to talk about the good guys who stop them.
If you ask GLAAD, an organization focused on LGBTQ advocacy and cultural change, they will tell you:
1. There is no evidence of escalating violence committed by LGBTQ people.
2. Accusing people from a small and vulnerable community of mass shooting crimes is an effort to further dehumanize, demonize, and promote fear about transgender and nonbinary people.
3. Despite being less than 2% of the U.S. adult population, transgender people are four times as likely to be victims of crime.
What they will not tell you:
1. Trans people are more likely to be radicalized towards violence and thousand of trans identifying people annually commit violent crimes and the rate has increased steadily since 2019. Yes, there are trans mass/school shooters and at times there may have been a tendency to say such was trans when they were not. But trans mass/school shooters do for a fact exist in three categories – One, the ones who have actually done it – Two, the ones who are going to do it and have planned to do it – Three, the ones who want to do it and have not yet planned it out. I gave examples of these three categories above, but one only need to look at the Trans Nashville school killer (Hale), how radicalized that person had become towards violence, and the one (Shockley – see above) that was arrested the day before they could carry out their attack they had been planning for a year how radicalized that person had become towards violence. And then there is Trantifa that has for a fact carried out violent mass-shooting attacks against law enforcement. Yes, there is evidence. The very fact that GLAAD is in such denial and then deceiving the public points to the underlying mental illness condition called ‘gender dysphoria’ and they don’t realize it.
2. Trans people routinely target vulnerable even those in the LGBTQ community, but especially children. The trans movement has a goal of ‘converting’ children not old enough to even decide which candy they like the best, as young as 2-3 years old. They even set up a whole pseudo science agenda to convert these children to something they are not and never actually self-identified as such but rather were ‘indoctrinated’ into it and they have organizations dedicated to to with ‘trans mentors’ for children of all ages where the goal is to ‘make them comfortable with being the trans person the mentors tell them they are’.
3. The most likely threats to trans come from the LGBTQ community. Over 85% of crimes against trans are carried out by members of the LGBTQ and trans-specific community. (note: see this line > “being less than 2% of the U.S. adult population” that’s a deception, not all trans people are adults. They are trying to make it look small to keep up the deception of ‘victimhood’ they put forth in the above above deceptions for what they will tell you.
