Bringing a long-standing European design to our shores, the new line of Lyman Sonicore silencers delivers some of the very lowest MSRPs we’ve seen from the suppressor industry. Depending on the model, we’re talking $199 to $299 for what appear to be perfectly serviceable cans.
All of the models are machined from aluminum, but the centerfire rifle models have stainless steel components in the areas where suppressors suffer the harshest conditions: the blast baffle and the bore of each subsequent baffle. In the case of the suppressor above, the stainless steel thread mount includes a built-in muzzle brake that acts as the blast baffle, and then the bore of each following baffle has a stainless steel cup with gas spirals pressed into it.
Each of these baffles is removable, making the Sonicore line fully modular, letting you balance length and weight against sound suppression needs.
Machining was really clean and the fit and feel of the threads on each baffle is very nice.
Some of the pistol and rimfire models are machined entirely from aluminum with limited use of stainless just for the mount.
Lyman’s pistol booster is uniquely compact, probably the shortest, smallest one I’ve seen.
There it is, housed within the base of the 9mm pistol can. That’s a teeny little booster! I stretched the piston out and it felt like a normal booster, too.
After playing with them in person we’ll definitely be getting our hands on a few of the Lyman Sonicore models to see how they perform in the wild. Very intriguing to have functional silencers at these prices, dropping the barrier to entry for a lot of hunters and recreational shooters.
Okay, the rest will just be a photo dump:
