We covered HUB, we covered mounts, and today we’re onto muzzle devices! What’s a “muzzle device” as it relates to firearm suppressors? Watch the video above to get the full rundown.
TL:DR edition:
A muzzle device is the firearm-side attachment point for your silencer. It may be integral to the barrel such as muzzle threads or a machined-in 3-lug mount, or it may be a brake, flash hider, compensator, etc. that’s designed to be a QA/QD (quick attach / quick detach) mounting point for your silencer. The muzzle device is intended to be “permanently” (sometimes it’s literally permanent) affixed to the muzzle of the firearm’s barrel.
There’s confusion around types of QD muzzle device systems and which systems work with which silencers. Most silencers allow for the use of different mounts, and it’s the mount that must match the muzzle device. Therefore, in most cases you’re able to use the muzzle device QD system of your choice with the silencer of your choice; brands do not necessarily have to match. For example, I could choose to put a Plan B-compatible muzzle device on all of my rifles from various brands, install a Plan B-compatible mount in the base of all of my rifle silencers from various brands, and use any of those silencers across any of those rifles (given caliber suitability). Same goes for other QD footprints like Xeno, KeyMo, ASR, and quite a few more.
More info and tidbits (sacrificial blast baffle, etc.) are in the video above, so make sure to give it a watch!
