Senate Adds Language Eliminating the NFA’s $200 Tax on Silencers and SBRs and SBSs to the One Big Beautiful Bill

NAGR National Association for Gun Rights tweet NFA $200 tax stamp One Big Beautiful Bill Senate reconciliation

Well that didn’t take long. As we reported yesterday, the Senate Parliamentarian ruled that moving the regulation of silencers, SBRs and SBSs (oh…and “any other weapons” too) out of the NFA and under the Gun Control Act of 1968 violates the Byrd rule and can’t remain in the One Big Beautiful Bill if it’s going to go forward under the budget reconciliation process. Aside from ignoring her and moving forward anyway, that left proponents of easing the burden of NFA regulation with a couple of options.

The first tack they could take was to add language that the House had passed as a stopgap measure that would leave those items under NFA regulation, but eliminate the onerous $200 tax. If they chose to go that route, the language would again have to pass muster with the Parliamentarian. But since the House measure’s language strictly involves tax and revenue matters without a change to the level of intensity of regulation, you’d have to think it would be much easier for her to approve as Byrd-worthy.

The second option was to do nothing. The Senate could have passed the OBBB without any NFA-related language and deal with the matter later when the differing versions of the bill passed by the House and Senate are reconciled. That, however, is always a messy process.

Last night, the Senate chose what’s behind door number one. They’ve added language to the One Big Beautiful Bill that would eliminate the NFA’s $200 tax on suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and machineguns.

Even after succeeding in getting the SHORT Act and Hearing Protection Act pulled from the B³, Democrats couldn’t help but continue to lie about what the SHORT Act and Hearing Protection Act would do if they became law.

Wyden tweet NFA SBR silencer regulation

Don’t expect any change in that approach as the Parliamentarian considers zeroing out the tax stamp.

Don’t touch that dial.

  1. Democrats: “the Parliamentarian is a righteous, non-partisan position to serve the people.”
Also Democrats: “we successfully lobbied the unelected, Democrat appointed Parliamentarian to rule our way!!”

      1. Geoff "I'm getting too old for this shit" PR

There’s talk circulating about another reconciliation bill in 2026 to correct the injustice to what it should be.

I hope that includes replacing that parliamentarian…

      2. Now Dude, surely you don’t think the left arrived at their present status by being upstanding honest citizens!

The NFA and HPA and SHORT stuff I want too. But there is more in this bill that affects things directly and indirectly, more than people realize.

You want this to pass even if it doesn’t include the NFA tax or HPA or SHORT stuff. If it doesn’t pass you will end up paying more in income taxes than any NFA tax savings on suppressors or SBR/SBS would have cost you and (for most) you will do it every year plus your tax dollars will still be paying for SNAP and medicade and ‘sanctuary cities nonsense’ and a whole bunch more for illegal aliens, plus still be paying (with your tax dollars) other tax and budget related stuff this bill intends to eliminate like paying for detrimental DEI and Trans and ‘democrat progressive’ agendas. In other words, if it doesn’t pass its going to literally cost all Americans with any income (retirement or not) more each year and that’s going to increase each year.

Why do you think the democrats are attacking it so hard, more than they have ever attacked any reconciliation bill before? Its because it cuts out the money they were using or wanted to further their agendas.

      1. “your tax dollars will still be paying for SNAP and medicade“

Yes, heaven forbid that we might use tax dollars to feed hungry kids or give healthcare to sick old people on ‘medicade’.

It’s much more important that we preserve those funds so we can continue to give Israel $4 billion per year.

It’s very generous of American taxpayers to continue to fund Israel’s free university education for every citizen, and you should be really proud of paying $11 million per day to fund their socialized medicine program that provides free on demand abortions to everyone.

I guess sometimes its OK for taxpayers to pay for other people‘s abortions, so it’s not about pro life.

        1. Let’s not forget all of the other countries we’ve been subsidizing for decades. You’re only focusing on Israel because that’s what your propaganda masters told you to focus on. Most foreign aid is corrupt. End all of it. If country really needs our help, then we might make a reasonable loan with them. We’re not going to be able to afford the interest on our own debt very soon.

““your tax dollars will still be paying for SNAP and medicade“

Yes, heaven forbid that we might use tax dollars to feed hungry kids or give healthcare to sick old people on ‘medicade’.”

Stop it with your disingenuous and lies and fake Miner49er. You took it out of context, which was clearly about illegal aliens. This is what I posted: “… plus your tax dollars will still be paying for SNAP and medicade and ‘sanctuary cities nonsense’ and a whole bunch more for illegal aliens,”

My tax dollars should not be used to support criminals, when someone enters the country illegally and remains illegally they are criminals.

If you want to feed and support illegal alien criminals so much then let them move in with you and you pay out of pocket for their food and medical care. The rest of us should not be required to support your violent left wing ideology and illegal alien invasion started by the illegal actions of a violent left wing dementia ridden president called Joe ‘lets take a shower Ashley’ Biden with our tax dollars.

SNAP and medicade will continue to be available to those who qualify for it, its not going away like the left wing claims it is – its just going to be denied to illegal alien criminals who are not legally entitled to it because they entered the country illegally and are not U.S. citizens which is who SNAP and medicaid is legally for (with a few exceptions that does not include illegal aliens). We simply can not continue to supply SNAP and medicade to illegal aliens, its bankrupting the programs and when that happens no one will be able to get it that needs it. Tax dollars to support it is already at an all time time with illegal aliens added in and the people can not stand a tax increase to continue to support it with illegal aliens being supported as the people overall simply do not have the money to pay the taxes that will be needed to continue to support it with illegal aliens. Even Biden had to print money we did not have to help support SNAP and medicade for illegal aliens because the tax increase to do the American people simply can not bear and Biden drove the economy into the toilet by doing that and increased our national debt by trillions and our future generations of Americans will still be paying for that debt increase 100 years from now. Kamala was going to do it to us too – she wanted to increase income tax by 15% for the lower class and 23% for the middle class to pay for illegal aliens – the whole country would have collapsed, the people simply can not bear the tax increase that would be needed to keep SNAP and medicade going with illegal aliens getting those benefits. It needs to stop, the illegal aliens on SNAP and medicade will ensure a good part of a younger generation of American kids and older American adults do go hungry and without medical care if its not stopped.

But that’s what you want Miner49er – Americans who go hungry and without medical care.

we actually don’t. You really need to learn what context means Miner49er.

Any funds Israel receives from the U.S. is for the same thing we supply other countries, foreign aid or for military purposes. Sometimes there may be a US/Isreal joint special interest purpose the U.S. might fund – but we do that for other countries too.

Israel’s healthcare system operates under the framework of the National Health Insurance Law (NHIL) enacted in 1995. This legislation mandates ‘universal health insurance’ (not ‘universal health care’) for all citizens and permanent residents. The system is funded through progressive taxation and employer contributions funneled through the National Insurance Institute (Bituah Leumi), and by out of pocket expenses (i.e. co-pays), and other insurance involvement.

While the NHIL provides broad coverage, it is not entirely ‘free.’ Several out-of-pocket expenses exist:

Copays: Small copays are charged for certain services, such as prescription medications and specialist visits. These are capped annually to protect vulnerable populations.

Supplementary Insurance (Shabam): Most Israelis (over 80%) purchase supplementary insurance plans (Shabam) offered by the HMOs or private insurance companies. These plans provide access to a wider range of services, shorter waiting times, and higher-quality facilities. Shabam policies are often priced based on actuarial risk models, similar to any other insurance product.

Private Healthcare: A smaller segment of the population opts for private healthcare services, which offer faster access and a wider selection of providers but come at a significantly higher cost.

All together, this is encompasses the Israel medical care system – and its not paid for by the U.S. nor is it ‘socialized medicine’. Its a participant private and tax funded insurance system – a socialized medicine system is tax funded.

higher education in Israel is not free, although it is heavily subsidized by the government. Israeli universities and colleges charge tuition fees, which are significantly lower than those in many Western countries.

          Structure and Funding:

The Israeli higher education system comprises:

Universities: Nine research universities, including the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. These universities offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Colleges: Numerous academic colleges and teacher training institutions that focus primarily on undergraduate education and vocational training.

Open University: A distance learning institution that provides accessible higher education to students who may not meet the traditional admission requirements or prefer to study at their own pace.

The Council for Higher Education (CHE) is the governing body responsible for accrediting institutions and overseeing the quality of higher education in Israel. Funding for universities and colleges comes from a combination of government subsidies, tuition fees, research grants, and private donations. The Isreal government subsidy component represents a significant portion of the total budget for most institutions, making higher education relatively affordable, and is funded by taxes and private companies. Its not funded by the U.S.

There was a time when the Isreal health insurance system was under water. The U.S. loaned them money to keep it aflot until they could fix it and they did fix it and pay the U.S. back.

Isreal does have free abortions under its medical system. These are only for gestational age limit up to 24 weeks and if threat to the mother’s life, physical or mental health, fetal abnormalities, rape, incest. This is vastly different from what liberals want in the U.S. – they want the ability to have free tax payer funded abortions for any reason they choose at any time they choose (like, “ya know, I changed my mind so go ahead and kill the life growing inside me…I have a date with another cute guy tonight”) and birth control purposes and up to moment of birth (which is legally and morally murder).

        4. Funny it only seems to cut out illegal aliens and those unwilling to work. Yeah still glad I voted for trump.

According to the below video: After the Parliamentarian wanted to remove the language of the Short Act and the HPA from the bill, the Senate majority leader refused and was going to keep it in anyway. Then multiple gun rights orgs got involved in lobbying the senate and instead of demanding the full language be kept in the bill these multiple org’s basically called for ‘compromise’ to have only, at least, have the 200 tax removed in the bill if the other stuff would not be left in. (that is somewhat substantiated by the wording of a joint letter issued by these orgs).

        1. “your propaganda masters told you to focus on“

Nope, I ain’t got no propaganda masters.

That’s just your billionaire propaganda masters talking, intelligent folks know that to give up all foreign aid would be to allow China and Russia to have uninterrupted influence in the capitals of other nations.

Unfortunately, you don’t recognize how the billionaires control our government at this point.

Regarding foreign aid, Elon Musk worked to cut foreign aid to every country… But Israel.

And now Republicans on the oversight committee are blocking attempts to subpoena Elon Musk to learn more about his efforts as the head of DOGE.

So much for the claims of ‘most transparent administration in history’.

Just like Donald Trump’s refusal to release the Epstein files, your billionaire propaganda masters have much to hide:

“House Republicans block Democratic effort to subpoena Elon Musk over DOGE’s access to government data

Republicans won a recorded vote during a Wednesday hearing to table a motion to subpoena the tech billionaire.

          1. Lol cool story bluannon you hear that on the leftist owned and operated mainstream media that up till recently was overwhelmingly backed by .gov propagandists.

          2. “Nope, I ain’t got no propaganda masters.”

I’ve witnessed you parrot EVERY SINGLE MSM narrative and lie for the past seven years! You know that because I’ve called you out on it. You’ve been wrong every time. When they say “jump,” you ask, “How high?” You’re a drone programmed to support the latest thing.

If we stop funding Israel and Ukraine, what will China do? Will they begin funding them? No, China is smarter than that. We’re the only country in the world that throws money away like that on foreign countries. If we stop funding dr_a_g* queen story hour in South Sudan and kweer* Sesame Street in Turkmenistan, then explain how China will take over the world.

We’ve been using foreign aid to fund global conflict, topple governments, meddle in elections, create the appearance of worldwide left-wing support, and make a few very select people extremely wealthy. Will China begin doing that if we stop? The answer is no.

          3. @Void They’re still backed by them. It doesn’t stop when they don’t control the White House. The deep state still selectively leaks stories that push left-wing narratives. They continue to bring on retired intelligence community executives to promote the preferred narratives.

“Nope, I ain’t got no propaganda masters.”

You continue to lie Miner49. You very devoutly and religiously spread everything your left wing cult masters say. Not one or two things here and there, but in just about every post you make.

And Its kinda odd too that you want death of Christians and jews and rail against christian religion, while at the same time supporting the perverted mantra of Islam of Iran to enact slaughter of the Christians and jews and then claim you hate religion while practicing the religion of the perverted version of Islam by Iran in wanting to slaughter Christians and jews. You can’t even be honest with yourself.

Yeah, you do have propaganda masters and you are very happy to serve that perverted cult religion they and you practice.

          5. Dude yeah figured as much I just noticed a slowdown in the frequency and more layoffs of the worst offender. It will continue as long as Obama’s 2013 defense authorization act is in effect officially and to the fullest extent unofficially in perpetuity with or without the PATRIOT act. I just keep it simple for the normies that have trouble keeping up with you, 40, and strych9

  2. The fact that John Thunder hasn’t fired the Harry Reid-appointed parliamentarian (who serves at the pleasure of the Majority Leader) tells you all we need to know about the GOP Senate leadership.

    They are spineless. And stupid.

  3. John Q Publik

The language behind door number one does nothing to help Californians. We need the removal of all unconstitutional laws at the federal level that we can manage to get if there is ever to be any hope in this state.

UPDATE: Big Beautiful Bill – Senate Makes Final Push to Destroy NFA Tax.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgQJ-KkZjaU

(note: also wanted to add here, there is maybe/probably going to be a second chance to get the HPA and SHORT. It might be simply adding it back now by overruling the Parliamentarian, or during this whole mess in reconciliation with the house bill by adding it in the house bill which is not subject to the Byrd rule, or it might be next year when they get another chance at a reconciliation bill).

But anyway… despite all the above commentary and consternation – The BBB has officially passed and ready for Trumps signature.

    The BBB has officially passed!

Trump Scores Win as BBB Clears Procedural Vote Hurdle After 82-Hour Showdown.

“After 82 grueling hours of debate, delay tactics, and amendment marathons on the Senate floor, President Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ has officially passed, marking a significant victory for his administration and the American people. The comprehensive tax and spending package, which includes historic tax relief, border enforcement measures, and pro-growth economic reforms, cleared the Senate hurdle late Saturday night. In a triumphant statement, Trump praised Republicans for their resolve and blasted Democrats for trying to obstruct what he called ‘a bill that delivers real results for real Americans.’

Trump is expected to sign the legislation into law on July 2, just in time for the July 4 deadline.

    1. Yes, we’re going to cut healthcare for poor folks and the elderly, in order to guarantee billionaires their wealthcare tax cuts.

We’re cutting SNAP food benefits for poor children and disabled folks, so billionaires will continue to purchase our president and Congress.

“The Senate Republican reconciliation bill would cut gross federal Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) spending by $1.02 trillion over the next ten years. That means the Senate bill’s Medicaid and CHIP cuts are $156.1 billion or 18 percent larger than even the House-passed bill’s draconian cuts of $863.4 billion over ten years.“

    2. .40 cal Booger

Correct for : “The BBB has officially passed and ready for Trumps signature.”

      should have been…

The BBB has officially passed and ready for Trumps signature after it passes the house.

It needs to pass the house before it goes for Trumps signature.

  6. trapped behind enemy lines

Well they had the spine to put 3 items that the parliamentarian nixed back in, but not the full text of the HPA and SHORT act, despite something called a TAX STAMP clearly affecting taxes. Pretty obvious what the RINOs in charge of the Senate think of our 2A rights. And then placate us by leaving all the registry in place but making it cheaper. This means the democrats can just put the fees back up to whatever they want with the same process when they are in charge. Primary them all.

    1. I saw that. They changed the language, and resubmitted it. Then the parliamentarian accepted the changed language despite the end result being the same. Did any Republicans try to change the language of SHORT and HPA to make it acceptable?

I also read that Thune rejected the parliamentarian on something a couple of months ago.
