SHOT 2026: Caldwell’s New ClayCopter Shotgun Targets

Many people enjoy the shotgun sports. However, not everyone has the opportunity to head out to the club for an afternoon of trap shooting, and some people dont even have a sporting clays course within a reasonable driving distance.

While attending Industry Day at the Range before SHOT Show, I learned that Caldwell has a solution to bring the sport to you. If you have a place to safely shoot your shotguns, one of their ClayCopters launchers may just be your dream come true.

Lets start with the clays.” Biodegradable, lightweight and easy to transport, Caldwell offers a variety of ClayCopter Targets. They are available in both 110mm (the same size as a standard clay bird) and 90mm (like midis). The 110mm colors are UFO (glow-in-the-dark), stealth drone (black) and Hi-viz orange. There is also an XV target that has up to a 20% increase in speed. Hi-viz orange is the only color the 90mm is available in. Online, I also saw that a target dispenser and holder are available. They think of everything.

Next, the launchers. There are three launchers available for ClayCopter Targets. Two are handheld, lightweight and easy to deploy. The Launcher uses an included Li-ion battery that’s good for over 300 launches per charge, while the Rip-Launcher has a pull cord (which is very easy to pull). Just aim and press the release trigger.

Imagine walking out to the field with your friend, a shotgun over one shoulder, a bag full of shells, a ClayCopter Launcher and a sleeve of targets over the other. It’s a great way to practice your shooting skills or just have a little fun outdoors. But wait…theres more.

If you want a hands-free option, the ClayCopter Surface-to-Air launcher is the answer. At under ten pounds, you can easily bring it out to the field with you in its carrying case. Singles, pairs, wobble and oscillating options are available, adding some fun to the game. ClayCopter Targets can be launched using either an included wireless remote or the free Caldwell Clays App.

The Caldwell Clays App is very intuitive. I watched as Jarrod Grove, the senior brand manager touch the area on the grid where he wanted the clays to go. He also mentioned other options, including pairing launchers, flurries, hands-free mode, presets and more.

Any of the ClayCopter launchers make great options for both new and experienced shooters. Its the perfect way to introduce a new shooter in a private setting, with the option to throw easy targets. For the more advanced shooter, throw the 90mm ClayCopter Targets in more difficult target pairs. Heck, you can add a few stealth drone targets to the mix to make it more challenging.
