Vortex’s New $699 Strike Eagle 1-10×24 FFP Riflescope

Vortex's New $699 Strike Eagle 1-10x24 FFP Riflescope

When Vortex brought us out to Wisconsin for their annual media summit last December, the Strike Eagle 1-10×24 FFP was one of the standouts on the line for me, along with its outrageously expensive cousin, the AMG 1-10×24 FFP. The latest sibling of the Strike Eagle family, it immediately felt like the logical evolution of the Strike Eagle line and unsurprisingly came with the same approachable price point, but with features that give it a bit more appeal to increasingly well-informed customers who still operate on the budget end of the spectrum.

I’ve since been running the same optic on a Franklin Armory rifle for a more in-depth review, and that extra time behind the glass has only reinforced my first impressions: this is very much a do‑it‑all LPVO that already punches above its asking price.

On the range at the Summit, the 1x performance was the first box I wanted to check. LPVOs live or die by how “red-dot-like” they feel on the low end, and the Strike Eagle 1-10×24 FFP does a solid job here, but isn’t nearly as impressive as the red dot intensity on the AMG 1-10. At less than 1/5th of the asking price, I think I can let that slide. The eyebox felt forgiving enough for quick transitions on the lower half of the magnification spectrum, and the daylight illumination was more than usable as long as you didn’t have a bright white target at midday to look at.

Switching from 1x to higher magnification with the included throw lever was quick and positive, which was something I noticed at the factory back in December. Vortex has gotten almost the perfect tension down on virtually all of their throw lever,s which is something I’ve found was a weak point for them just 5 years ago. Being able to go from hosing close targets to picking your way through smaller plates at distance with a single optic is exactly what this class of scope is supposed to deliver, and the Strike Eagle, I think, handles it quite well. Vortex's New $699 Strike Eagle 1-10x24 FFP Riflescope

Back home, I’ve had the optic mounted on a Franklin Armory rifle in a vortex canteliever mount to get a better feel for it in a less structured environment. That’s given me a chance to live with the motion-activated illumination and 10-minute auto shutoff, which are the kinds of features you appreciate more over time than in a single afternoon. It’s only been a handful of weeks with a few uses, but the battery hasn’t died yet, and I’ve left it on its highest setting each time I’ve used it.

The fact that the reticle wakes up when the rifle comes out to be used is a small quality-of-life upgrade that nudges this scope above older Strike Eagle models. The first focal plane MRAD-based reticles—whether you prefer the EBR-8 BDC MRAD or the EBR-9 MRAD—also make more sense the more you use them, especially if you’re already living in the MRAD world with other optics.

All of that would be interesting, but less compelling if the price were creeping into high-end LPVO territory. While I absolutely would prefer the fancy new AMG 1-10×24 FFP, its six thousand dollar price tag makes that more of a dream than reality. Instead, Vortex is coming to market with a $699.99 MSRP for the budget-minded among us, which puts the Strike Eagle 1-10×24 FFP squarely into reasonable territory for most AR-15 owners.

For that money, you’re getting a 1-10x magnification range, 24 mm objective, FFP reticle, motion-activated illumination with a 10-minute auto shutoff, 3.7 inches of eye relief, a 30 mm tube, and a 21.6-ounce overall weight without rings. In the box you’ll find flip caps, the throw lever, lens cloth, CR2032 battery, 2 mm custom tool, and a 2-inch sunshade—basically everything you need to get it mounted and into the field except for a compatible 30mm mount, of which I’d recommend Vortex’s own 30mm cantilever mount.

Vortex's New $699 Strike Eagle 1-10x24 FFP Riflescope

Between my time with it at the Vortex Media Summit and the ongoing work with the Franklin Armory test rifle, the Strike Eagle 1-10×24 FFP seems to me to be a very compelling option for shooters who want one optic to cover close‑in work, field use, and the occasional match without dropping four figures.

A full, dedicated review will be coming once I’ve logged more rounds and more time in varying conditions, but if you’ve been waiting for a “real” 1-10x FFP LPVO that doesn’t destroy your budget, this one deserves a hard look. For those who want to dig into the finer details—reticle diagrams, full spec sheets, and accessory breakdown- Vortex has all of that available on their official product page.
