Vortex is known for its affordable, yet capable red dots (among other things). With their VIP Warranty and human-first customer service, they’ve long been a favorite of mine.

Earlier this year, they introduced the Triumph red dot, an ultra-affordable option for hunters and shooters. Previously, the Crossfire red dot was Vortex’s entry point model, but that’s no longer the case. In the months that followed, Vortex developed a new version of the popular Crossfire red dot to offer improved features and fill gaps across almost every price point. The new Crossfire II Red Dot comes in both standard and solar versions at very affordable prices.

The Crossfire II 2 MOA red dots add more functionality without losing the simplicity that made the red dot popular. Features

The Vortex Crossfire II builds on a familiar red dot platform with modern upgrades while remaining affordable. Designed for everything from close-range drills to longer shots on steel, the optic features a crisp 2 MOA dot, unlimited eye relief, and compatibility with magnifiers and night-vision devices.

New motion activation automatically powers the optic on when it’s moved and shuts it off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. Button-controlled illumination offers 10 daylight and two night-vision settings (which is a massive upgrade over the previous brightness adjustment dial).

A good assortment of stuff comes in the box. (Cory Ross)

Select models also feature Solar with Auto D-TEC Technology, which automatically switches between solar and battery power based on available light, extending runtime from an already impressive 50,000 hours to up to 150,000 hours (for the solar models).

The Crossfire II ships with both a lower 1/3 co-witness mount and a low mount, offering greater flexibility for different firearms. Waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-purged, and protected by Armortek lens coatings, the optic is built to handle demanding conditions without unnecessary complexity.

Zooming Out

I’ve had this one in hand for a few weeks, and have been impressed so far. The Gen 1 Crossfire Red Dot sold for $149.99, which makes the new Gen 2 model all the more impressive. The base model (CF2-RD2) still sells for $149.99, while the other variants are priced at $169.99.

Staying with the value trend, I’ve been using this red dot on a Hi-Point HP-15 rifle. That’s a lot fo capability for not much cash. Look for more on this optic (and the rifle) soon.

Meh, just another dot sight that uses the same China OEM tubed pattern-construction. Nothing really new and innovative.
