Florida Dem Party Chair: Open Carry of Firearms Makes it Harder for Floridians to Trust Each Other

“I have a long history advocating for the rights afforded in the Second Amendment and have previously petitioned Courts to uphold those rights for all citizens. However, I strongly believe that the First District Court of Appeals has erred in its recent opinion, which paves the way for open carry in the State of Florida.

Nationwide, we are seeing harrowing levels of gun violence, marked by assassinations, school shootings, and people being killed in places of worship. This is a moment in history when we need to promote safer environments, not embolden those who could abuse the ruling’s intent to sow seeds of terror. We strongly encourage law enforcement to wait for a final legal judgment before allowing open carry, as it may cause confusion that leads to danger at a time when calm and clarity are so desperately needed.

Historically, the Florida Sheriffs Association, many departments across the state, and leaders on both sides of the aisle have agreed: open carry will make Floridians less safe. The impact of this decision will have negative long-term effects on our communities and further erode Floridians’ trust in one another.”

  1. I’d be more worried about the blue-haired banshees screaming death threats at me than the guy walking down the road with a pistol on his hip.
Depending on the number of banshees I might just walk closer to the guy with the pistol.

Something you may not know about Nikki Fried :

Fried was elected state Agriculture Commissioner, and in charge of issuing carry permits.

The first thing she did was to slow-walk the issuing of carry permits for as long as legally possible, 90 days. The previous Republican Commissioner issued them in a few short short days, the way it oughtta be.

She’s no friend of the 2A…

    1. Dems are all now either murderous sociopaths, people who celebrate murderous sociopaths, people who make excuses for murderous sociopaths or people who ignore murderous sociopaths.
      They are not trustworthy.

Someone needs to make clear to them that accusing fully one-half of the population of being so evil, they deserve to be shot dead, they shouldn’t be surprised if we take them at their word, and respond appropriately.

They seem want to pick a fight with the half of the country that owns the vast majority of the guns.

With what? The military that comprises over 80 percent of the enlisted being right-leaning in the first place??? With recent combat experience since 2001? With the police, who may find out their families may be targeted if they start kicking down doors to confiscate our arms?

        What the actual fvck???

  2. Ms Fried how would a law banning open carry have prevented any shooting?
If the citizens of Florida feel less safe, then they should not venture beyond the borders of Florida since all states bordering Florida permit open carry.
Try to comprehend Ms Fried, that laws do not prevent shootings because crooks do NOT obey laws.
The confusion you speak of exist only in the minds of you and your democrat leftist gang.

Confusion must be the reason so many on the left(democrats et al) cannot read and understand the 2nd Amendment.

  3. Once again. The dems are the terrorist .org. They will murder you because they do not like your opinion.

Dems need to be removed from office. Schools.

    1. .40 cal,

ANY statement that is framed as “I support [insert right], BUT . . . ” is an inherent lie. And I hate it when the right side does it, too. If it’s a right, you either support it or you don’t. If you believe you have the right or authority, legal or moral, to “limit” or “restrict” a right, then you don’t believe it’s a right, period. And my inherent rights are simply not subject to the speaker’s ignorance and prejudice.

      1. Nikki Fried said, “uphold those rights for all citizens. However, I strongly believe that the First District Court of Appeals has erred”
Therefore let’s add ‘however’ to the butt list.

  4. When permitless carry was being discussed I happened upon a post on a bankers website that was discussing what they should do if an armed customer comes into their lobby. The best answer that I saw was”it depends on where the gun is. If it is in a holster and the customer is behaving in a reasonable manner, do nothing. If the gun is in the hand and the customer is acting irrationally, call 911”

    1. “If the gun is in the hand and the customer is acting irrationally, call 911””

      Damn straight, Mas.

Here in Florida, it’s technically-illegal to be armed in a bank, but I’ve heard from more than one bank employee they don’t mind in the least, as long as it stays holstered. Permitted folks don’t rob banks.

They have admitted it’s comforting to know a customer might solve a bank robbery before the cops arrive…

  5. Quite the contrary, open carry will make Floridians trust each other more when they can see that there may be immediate consequences for their bad behavior.

“open carry will make Floridians less safe”

Name one US jurisdiction when open carry has created an unsafe environment. Her statement needs proof.
