I remembered the generations that came before mine, and my generation for what we accomplished. I remember those who are buried in foreign cemeteries, those who returned in flag draped boxes, and those who were never recovered. Those heroes are honored by me.
Before retiring I listen to a Memorial Day/Veterans Day playlist that includes:
‘Mansions of the Lord’ from the movie ‘We Were Soldiers’
‘Hymn to the Fallen’ from ‘Saving Private Ryan’
Theme from ‘Band of Brothers’
Theme from ‘The Pacific’
and a similar music.
While listening, I think of Army buddies that died in Vietnam, a cousin I never knew that died in Korea, along with friends and family that suffered the emotional trauma of several conflcts. And I trust their sacrifices are worthy of the Lord’s acceptance.
“Just Divine embrace, Eternal light,
In the Mansions of the Lord.”
I said a prayer for the men I served with. Who are no longer here.
Amen.
