Gun control advocates have likened Florida to the wild west after the state’s attorney general endorsed an appeals court ruling allowing residents to openly carry handguns, a move one Democrat said created a “hot mess” of confusion.
James Uthmeier proclaimed that “open carry is the law of the state” following the determination by the first district court of appeal earlier this month said that a 1987 Florida statute banning the open display of firearms contravened the second amendment of the US constitution.
The panel sided with a Florida man who was arrested at a Pensacola crosswalk in 2022, waving a copy of the constitution with an exposed pistol in a holster.
A succession of sheriffs immediately ceded to Uthmeier’s admonishment and said they would no longer arrest or prosecute anybody seen with a visible sidearm in public after the ruling, which took effect on Friday.
But several of them also joined gun control activists to point out that the issue is not clear cut. Other gun laws still on Florida’s books prohibit weapons in a variety of places. They include schools, hospitals, courthouses, city and county commissions, and bars, while businesses and private property owners retain the right to ban anyone from their premises with a gun, concealed or otherwise.

This is only confusion for anti-gunners – its the new version of the Florida anti-gunners old failed ‘there will be rivers of blood in the streets if you let people carry a gun without a permit’ scare they tried. “Oh noes, open carry causes confusion and people will be confused and carry guns into places guns are prohibited! The sky will fall!”
Of course the Dims, the MSM, and other Leftist/fascists are hyperventilating about this – the easy presence of visible firearms will deprive much of their constituency/audience of their favorite pastimes, like rape, murder, muggings, looting, and carjacking. They have to protect the livelihoods of the people whose votes and support they depend on.
I open carry a glock survival knife. It has an overall length of 12 inches with saw teeth on one side. I use a flashlight holster that rotates out of the way when I sit down.
And yes I do get stares from people. And a few smiles and friendly questions as well.
I’ve open carried guns as well infront of the local cops. I never been stopped. The open carry of Arms in KY and TN is very normal.
Connecticut HAD open carry until the democRat majority decided that it scared certain people. The state that calls itself the Constitution State is a pile of antigun dung. The legislature openy defies the Contstitution of The USA any time they feel like it, and their media minions are complicit, too.
California HAD open carry for 160+ years since inception of Statehood back in 1850, until former Gov. Jerry Brown removed it to avoid what he publicly termed as “inadvertent shootings” of innocent people by LEOs who didn’t properly understand the law here. Instead of directing that all LE be properly trained in the … oh, I don’t know … the *law* they are employed to enforce while they themselves carry deadly weapons among the community, Brown instead chose the route of simply disarming us. Note that this was back around 2011 or so, long before the Bruen decision, when CA was still a “May Issue” state and most Counties absolutely refused to issue CCWs.
I prefer concealed carry, but any form of carry should be available options and OC should not be prohibited here. There is no legal reason for it and it should have been overturned already.

You want open carry in blue states to prevent rabid prosecutors from pursuing you for accidentally revealing your concealed firearm.
They see all the states with open carry and cry the sky is falling despite nothing of the sort happening.
They look up on thousands rioting, setting fires, assaulting bystanders, looting local shops and even murdering during the mostly peaceful summer of love and call it righteous protest.

This is great wish every other Attorney would do the same. The Dems want to put the law abiding Citizens in a position that would be able to be murdered and their families as well. Most of us do not have the money to have Body Guards like all of the Politicians Thje President needs to take that away from all people that are Elected to Office with the exception of the President and Vice President and Vice President. Then they would learn that we all need to protect ourselves and our Families and Occaisionally as a Backup to the Police.

The reason both concealed and open carry must be legal is so they can’t be weaponized as a pretense against us.
If only concealed is legal, then an inadvertent exposure (a reach or a puff of wind) is fraught.
If only open is legal, then inadvertent coverage (a jacket swings too far) is perilous.
We must be free to choose the mode of carry suitable for the moment, considering location and activity and clothing and body type and a hundred other factors that a legislator has no idea.
