Lawsuit Blames YouTube, Google, Reddit for Radicalizing the Buffalo Tops Market Mass Shooter

Two new lawsuits argue that YouTube, along with its parent companies Alphabet and Google, and Reddit bear responsibility for helping to radicalize the mass shooter who killed 10 Black people at a Tops Friendly Markets grocery store in Buffalo, New York, in 2022.

The suits were filed Tuesday on behalf of 16 survivors of the racially-motivated massacre, and on behalf of Wayne Jones, son of Celestine Chaney, a 65-year-old grandmother of nine who was killed in the attack.

Prior to the shooting, the gunman reportedly used YouTube, Reddit, and other social media platforms to learn about conspiracy theories, including The Great Replacement, a white supremacist ideology.

The shooter, who was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year, “developed plans for a violent, racist attack using detailed information he obtained from social media sources,” according to both complaints.

    1. Geoff "I'm getting too old for this shit" PR

“Can’t sue ideas so may as well sue places where people share ideas.”

Speech some may consider abhorrent or detestable is still…, wait for it… –

      Protected speech.

If anything, it deserves even more protection…

      1. It isn’t protected on a private platform, but the gov isn’t supposed to get them to censor people like the Biden admin and deep state under Trump 1.0 did.

What happened to that retired fed that was talking to this unstable person online? Why was that happening? It was public knowledge that this guy had issues since he said he wanted to commit a m-u-r-d-e-r s-u-i-c-i-d-e while he was in high school.

  1. Things like this are just anti first amendment law suits.

When I was a kid. I was told the kkk and n@z;is had a right to match in black and holocaust survivor Neighborhoods.

It seems some “animals” are more equal than others.

    1. Yes, it is pro censorship. They only want to suppress information that is politically inconvenient for them. They don’t want people to be able to question them, just like the Covid mess, Hunter’s laptop, crazy election data, etc.

It is intended to move the political needle in their favor. It also looks like easy money. That shooter isn’t likely to have a strong lawyer fighting for him. Who would want that job? Probably no one. Whoever ends up representing him will likely share the same political ideology as the plaintiffs.

  2. This BS again? They are really upset that we notice the things they are doing. Are they going to sue Joe Biden for saying a white minority due to non white immigration is a good thing? Are they going to sue Anderson Cooper for saying the same thing? Why not sue CNN for helping to radicalize people by occasionally admitting the truth?

Here is a little trick for Dems to use since they are incapable of or unwilling to use logic: swap the races to see if it sounds racist.

I want to see every single interaction this guy had online. The feds have a history of finding people on the edge and giving them a nudge to push them over. It turns out that someone was nudging Thomas Crooks pretty hard. It just recently came out that there was ample evidence showing Crooks took a hard left turn around 2020. Yet the feds and the media were tripping over themselves to tell us that he was right wing by using pre 2020 evidence. Unfortunately, we will not see those online interactions because this guy will not get a decent legal team.

    1. Haven’t had enough coffee yet. Shooter will have nothing to do with this. The tech companies can afford good lawyers, but they share the same ideology as the plaintiffs. I imagine they will want to settle quickly instead of making a big deal about it. This is happening just when YouTube seemed to be easing up a bit on their algorithm. Content creators don’t like using Rumble because they can’t make much money there unless they have some kind of specific deal with Rumble.
