After the betrayal of gun owners in the Senate’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” grassroots Second Amendment advocates are fed up — and many are now asking a question that would have been unthinkable just a year ago: Is it time for gun owners to leave the Republican Party?
With tech mogul Elon Musk recently floating the idea of launching a new “America Party” as an alternative to the uniparty establishment, some see it as a tempting political lifeboat for disillusioned liberty voters.
But not so fast.
Betrayed, Backstabbed, and Sold Out Again
Gun owners had every reason to believe the BBB would include the Hearing Protection Act and the SHORT Act — language that would remove suppressors and short-barreled rifles from the purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA).
That’s what we were promised. And that’s what the House partially delivered.
But when it came time for the Senate to act, establishment Republicans — led by Majority Leader John Thune — bent the knee to the unelected Parliamentarian, who absurdly ruled that the NFA provisions were “policy” and not eligible under reconciliation.
Instead of overruling her — as Democrats have done in the past for electric vehicle mandates and other progressive priorities — Republicans surrendered.
The end result? A watered-down “compromise” that zeroes out the $200 NFA tax… while leaving registration, regulation, and criminal penalties firmly intact.
Enter Elon
Sickened by bloated spending and broken promises, Elon Musk took to X:
“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.”
Gun owners are understandably intrigued. Musk has acknowledged the true intent of the Second Amendment in past comments, saying . . .
I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an important safeguard against potential tyranny of government.
But that statement doesn’t come without red flags. In the same breath, Musk has also advocated for “tight background checks” and special permits for ‘assault weapons’ — even suggesting bans on semi-automatic rifles with supersonic ammo and “large” magazines.
That’s the kind of contradiction gun owners have grown used to… especially from establishment Republicans. Even President Trump’s first term saw the banning of bump stocks and flirtations with red flag gun confiscation — something the Trump team seems eager to course-correct in term two.
And to be fair, redemption is possible. Politicians can evolve. They can learn — especially when they feel the fire of an angry, organized gun rights movement.
But for a new party? The bar needs to be be higher.
Don’t Abandon the Battlefield, Take It Over
While Musk’s frustration with the “uniparty” is real — and shared by millions of Americans — gun owners should be wary ov hitching their political future to an unproven vehicle. Starting a new party means starting from scratch. No infrastructure. No elected officials. No committee assignments. No seats at the table. That’s part of why the Libertarian Party, despite having a strong platform on gun rights, has struggled to gain real political traction.
The truth is, gun owners have more leverage inside the Republican Party than outside it…if they use it.
Time and again, grassroots gun rights groups have successfully ousted weak Republicans in primaries and replaced them with fighters who won’t back down. That’s power. That’s influence. That’s a block of voters that no Republican hopeful can afford to ignore.
If the GOP is to remain the party of the Second Amendment, it won’t be because they deserve it, it will be because gun owners force them to earn it.
Gun owners are right to be angry. They’re right to feel betrayed. And they’re right to demand more than lip service and half-measures. But before jumping ship, they should remember: it’s easier to take over a party than build one from scratch.
If Elon Musk’s America Party wants the support of gun owners, it better come with ironclad commitments to protect and expand Second Amendment rights. No more contradictions, no more compromises. Until then, the fight for freedom is right where it’s always been: in the trenches, in the primaries, and in the halls of power — where gun owners must continue to fight without compromise.

That’s not what happened.
If Thune had over-ruled the Parliamentarian on the NFA provisions being griped about it would have triggered a fatal democrat filibuster and the whole bill would have died right then.
The NFA provisions being griped about were only tangentially related to budget and taxes, they were written more as policy. If this had been done under relaxed Byrd adherence it would have passed. But either party can demand strict Byrd rule adherence and the democrats did, and in that a fatal Democrat filibuster would have happened had the Parliamentarian been over ruled.
Citing past occasions of where a fatal filibuster would not have happend or under relaxed Byrd rule adherence does not mean the Republicans bent the knee this time.
The NFA is a tax law, period. The registration is there so they know what the tax is on and who has to pay it. Its not the other way around as you would suggest. That’s what the Supreme Court concluded in the 30s and that’s the only reason it was deemed constitutional. They tried to effectively ban suppressors, SBRs etc with a huge tax ($200 in 1934!) since they did not have the power to just outright ban them.
This is why the parliamentarian should have been ignored and the Senate pushed ahead here with the wording as it was. The version of what happened in this article is correct and Thune and the other republicans in the senate should be held accountable.
We have a conservative majority Supreme Court. With the taxes removed, this is a great opportunity to strike it down for good. The parliamentarian may have been a blessing in disguise. If we simply removed it by reconciliation, then I suppose a Dem majority could add it back in the future during reconciliation. If the SCOTUS strikes it down as unconstitutional, then it ain’t coming back.
To the law experts: how soon could a ruling like that happen?
Actually it comes down to the Fed settling that lawsuit. I imagine that’s happening this year. I assume Dems wouldn’t be able to bring it back without going through standard legislative procedures which means it’s gone.

basically, the claims of this ‘pedophile’ activity by Trump arose in 2015:
In August 2015, Gawker — which was, at the time, part of the same media group as Jezebel — was approached by a self-described PR representative named Al Taylor. “I’ve got some good info on Donald Trump for you,” Taylor told the outlet. It was about Trump raping an underage girl.
On April 26, 2016 — without a lawyer — a person identified as Johnson filed a lawsuit against Trump and Epstein in a California U.S. District Court. According to the complaint, Epstein trafficked Johnson as a sex slave in 1994 after another girl recruited her at a bus stop when she was 13. She wrote that she was forced to sexually gratify both Epstein and Trump on multiple occasions.
The case was dropped when it was discovered this ‘Johnson’ wasn’t a real person, and the address she provided was bogus as it was the address of a foreclosed house whose owner had recently died..
A few months later, however, an anonymous Jane Doe filed a nearly identical case in a New York U.S. District Court. For the New York case, Doe was represented by a New Jersey patent attorney, Thomas Meagher, who later confirmed to news outlets that his client was the same person who filed the Johnson claims. By then, a widely shared video of a woman identified as Johnson, shown with a pixelated face and disguised voice, accompanied press coverage of her case. Numerous journalists, advocates and political operatives had attempted to get, or had been promised, in-person access to Johnson – but were never given access. Steve Baer, a conservative mega-donor whose extensive email contacts helped to push the claims, for example, told Jezebel that he never met the accuser in person despite many attempts and promises.
Once again another case by the same ‘Johnson’ that never went forward.
The now defuct website Revelist, got a kind of interview in July 2016. They were promised an in person interview, but that fell through like all the other promises and they settled for a conference call call interview and the journalist wrote “I don’t know if the Katie Johnson I spoke to is the same girl who Trump allegedly raped in 1994, or if that girl even exists,” . In other words, again as in the past, despite promises, no bona fide’s were every produced to verify that ‘Johnson’ calming to have been raped by Trump ever existed.
The next month, Lisa Bloom, an attorney known for fighting high-profile sexual abuse cases, helped organize and publicize a news conference at which Johnson was to appear and outline her allegations against Trump. Again, this Johnson backed out and did not appear.
Once again another event by the same ‘Johnson’ that didn’t go anywhere.
Two court cases, one media event by a lawyer and promised in-person interviews that never happened – covering face in any video or pics – all three have something in common, ‘Johnson’ does not want to be identified, but why? ya would think that a person so aggrieved would want to come forward and be heard and have that opportunity to ‘see justice done’. So whats wrong with this picture? Its a contrived smear campaign against Trump, that’s whats wrong with this picture and the left wingers bought into it and keep circulating it and every time you dig into their claimed ‘evidence’ it turns out there is no ‘evidence’ of any such ‘pedophile’ activity they claim Trump did.
Then journalists figured out that a former “Jerry Springer” producer with a history of trolling the media had been a key player in promoting them from their inception and played a role in crafting the initial California filing. The Guardian’s Jon Swaine found out this former “Jerry Springer” producer was the Al Taylor that crafted the 2016 California filing and approached Gawker in 2015. Al Taylor had been texting from the phone number listed as Johnson’s listed phone number in the initial sexual assault complaint in California in 2016. But the plot thickens – it turns out that ‘Al Taylor’ was a fake name – Norm Lubow who described himself as a past segment producer for “The Jerry Springer Show.” was ‘Al Taylor’. Then Snopes got involved (yes that Snopes, the fact checkers).
Lubow eventually confirmed to Snopes that he was, indeed, Taylor and that he had, under this pseudonym (‘Al Taylor’), helped the accuser (‘Johnson’) with her first legal filing, with the video that accompanied her claims and with promoting those allegations to the press.
In the Revelist interview, the person identifying herself as Johnson explained that “Al Taylor” — i.e., Lubow — had played a role in helping her craft the complaint against Trump.
Lubow has a history of pushing false stories about celebrities to news outlets and creating false case filing for lawsuits to generate media coverage and using false ‘victims’ that never give interviews in person. Hmmmmm…. beginning to sound a little familiar.
Lubow claims that he heard about the Johnson allegations from a friend at a party sometime around 2014 and then helped her move forward with the lawsuit, produce the video and publicize her allegations to the media.
Lubow’s involvement does not prove that Johnson’s claims are false or that she does not exist. However, it does show that the claims attributed to this person were aggressively promoted and aided by someone who has a professional history of using individuals to create fictional salacious drama.
Then there is the circular logic argument reasoning so commmon among the left wing: have argued that the similarities of Johnson’s stories to other victims of Epstein – recruitment by other young women with promises of modeling gigs, trafficking those girls to parties with powerful men – makes the Johnson claim compelling, regardless of Lubow’s involvement. That argument becomes circular when one considers that detailed stories from Epstein’s victims were publicly known well before any Johnson filings were made.
Julie K. Brown, (uncovered the federal government’s plea deal with Epstein in 2008) , pushed back on the notion that journalists had ignored the Johnson claims, writing on X that, “The woman just wouldn’t talk, and her lawyer would not confirm she was even legit. … The address she gave on her first lawsuit was false. She was linked to political operatives at one point.”
Investigations by reporters at Jezebel and The Guardian found numerous red flags in the 2016 court filings and story. Among those red flags was evidence that tied the case to an aggressive media campaign initiated by an individual calling himself Al Taylor.
1. There has never been any evidence presented by ‘johnson’ that Trump raped her. there has never been even one bona fide has this ‘Johnson’ ever produced to prove who she is. The phone number on her filing belongs to Lubow, the address in the filing is not hers, she has never appeared in court or in public to substantiate her claims.
2. A guy named ‘Daniel Dory’ (on the meme) created this and circulated a meme with a picture he claimed was Johnson at age 13 (and with a list of other underage girls that Trump has been accused of having sex with >https://media-proxy.snopes.com/width/600?url=https://media.snopes.com/2024/07/trumpmeme.jpeg > the picture is not Johnson. According to Virginia Roberts, one of Epsteins girls, in an interview she gave to a U.K. media outlet a while back: (note: (note: her name is now Virginia Giuffre, and was her name in the court case)
In 2003 Clinton went to Epstein Island and used Epstein’s jet. One of Epstein’s girls, Virginia Roberts, was flying the aircraft and on that day she was flying it with Clinton and his secret service detail aboard.
They arrived in the Caribbean, and Epstein’s resident madam (i.e. pimp) that ran his girls, Ghislaine Maxwell, went to pick up them up in a helicopter that Epstein had bought her. Once at the island, in a Villa that Clinton was going to use, there were three desks in the living area and on the desk were some pictures of Epstein shaking hands with famous people and photos of naked girls, including one of them being Virginia Roberts naked lying in a hammock when the picture was taken. There were also other girls on the flight, one 17 and the rest under age 17.
She also detailed that for a short time Donald Trump was ‘business friends’ with Epstein, but although using the loan of the jet for flying various places never visited the island and never was with any of the girls, had broken off this friendship when the things about Epstein started coming out. (this matches: what three other of Epsteins girls have stated and what the flight log and others on these trips on the Epstein jet with Trump each time he used it have substantiated, and what Trump himself has publicly stated as far back as 2016).
