HK Enters the Micro-Compact 9mm Segment

Designed to compete with micro compacts like the P365, Hellcat, Reflex, etc., HK’s new VP9CC packs 10 rounds of 9mm in its flush-fitting magazine and 12 rounds in its slightly extended mag. It’s small, fairly lightweight, optics-ready, and it’ll be at dealers beginning next month.

The VP9CC’s optics plate is unique in its height. It’s taller — deeper into the slide — than most. Turns out it actually cups the striker and acts as part of the striker channel, which allows optics to mount particularly low on the VP9CC.

Like its big brother VP9s, little cocking wings extend out the sides at the rear of the slide to provide more purchase for manipulating the slide. These are removable if you aren’t into them.

The ergonomics are pretty nice, and the gun ships with a whopping six different backstraps that change not only the shape and size at the rear of the grip frame but also the size of the beavertail.

A red, cocked striker indicator is visible in the rear slide plate.

Serrated black rear sight.

An ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release is integrated into the rear of the trigger guard. This one’s a bit controversial — you either like it or you don’t — but if you put in the time to get used to it, it functions really well and can be fast and intuitive.

The VP9CC is 6.02 inches long, 4.41 inches tall, and has a 3.13-inch barrel. It weighs 17.64 ounces without a magazine.

HK’s website doesn’t currently list the gun’s width. I feel like it’s a touch wider than some of the competition; the slide seems to have more real estate on either side of the barrel hood than some of the other micro-compacts.

Two models of VP9CC will be available at launch: an optics-ready model for $1,049 and an optic-equipped model for $1,399.
