I spoke with her shortly after the election about me buying guns, and she said ok, as long as I keep them in a safe and I’m not taking them out when she is in the house. I didn’t specify which guns I would be buying, but she didn’t seem to care.
The other day, my wife said to me: “Promise me you won’t ever get an AR?”. I said “I can’t promise that”. I said that because I have an ar-10 and an ar-15 already.
I ask: “Why not?”
“Because civilians shouldn’t be able to have them”
I started to defend my position, but she quickly ended the conversation.
I am flabbergasted. After all the horrifying shit that we’ve seen so far in Trump 2.0, she still doesn’t think civilians should be able to own ar-style rifles. Doesn’t care about the fact that they are no more or less dangerous than something like a mini-14.
I’m sorry, but my rifles were not used in any mass shootings. And I am not a murderer. These are tools, and they are tools that I use responsibly and lawfully.
In the midst of a complete fascist takeover of the federal government and the fall of the United States as we know it, I think it is incredibly stupid to not have the best tools you can afford (and know how to use them!). We all know the crazy MAGA folk own ARs, so why the hell would I arm myself with something inferior?
I have abandoned the Democratic Party, in part because they refuse to shift their views on guns, and she sounds just like them. These positions will do nothing except ensure future losses by the Democratic Party. I don’t know what to do.

It was a well done troll because that’s exactly how they sound. You can see replies agreeing with the sentiment. These people need to learn what fascism is. Just because right wingers love their country, and left wingers hate their country (and themselves), they think that means that right wingers are fascist. The Right is for less government control. No fascist takeover involves attempting to shrink the government and control. The original philosopher of fascism, Giovanni Gentile, rejected individualism. To them, collectivism with the State in control is everything. Who is melting down over the attempted shrinking of the federal bureaucracy? Is it the Right?

These are just placeholder terms to represent “anti-communism” and “communism” respectively.
As in “we must fight anti-communism to defend communism.”

Civilians shouldn’t be allowed to have them because they can shoot long distances and cause horrific wounds…so they say. One has to assume they know nothing about the power and velocity of hunting rifles….or the damage a 12 gauge does at close range. Or that a .223/5.56 has nowhere near the power of the .30-06 used in WWI and WWII that are still among the most popular hunting rifles out there that no one seems to be too interested in banning. (Admittedly, some of the most recent bills are broad enough to ban all semiauto rifles and even handguns.)
My favorite “pet” caliber to show as an example is .44 Magnum in a lever-action rifle–loaded with “hot” 240 grain hardcast lead bullet cartridges. In case it isn’t obvious, the lever-action rifle design is, what, 150 years-old? And yet a scumbag spree killer could use a lever-action rifle (chambered and loaded as above) and deliver a devastating spree-killing event. Why would such an event be so devastating? Because each bullet would have enough mass and velocity to deliver a fatal wound to at least two, if not three people in a dense crowd. Given that a typical lever-action rifle has something like an 8-round tube magazine, that means a spree killer could kill as many as 16 to 24 people without reloading if he/she uses a simple lever-action rifle chambered in .44 Magnum (loaded with “hot” hardcast bullet cartridges).
Ready access to any specific caliber or firearm platform isn’t the problem. The root problem is evil human beings.
Liberal gun owners are the enemy of liberty. They are racist. I don’t care how many guns they own. They are responsible for the passage of gun control.
