Study Finds Music Doesn’t Fuel ‘Gun Violence’ (No Matter How Insufferable It May Be)

Yoko Ono

Public debate frequently claims that certain musical genres spur gun violence. We tested that claim across five contrasting settings often blamed for “music-driven” shootings: punjabi hip-hop (India and diaspora), Chicago drill (United States), funk proibidão (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), famo (Lesotho and South Africa), and narcocorridos (Mexico and U.S. borderlands).

Methods
We conducted a narrative evidence synthesis combining official statistics, peer-reviewed and grey literature, investigative journalism and policy documents. Where firearm-specific homicide series were unavailable, we used total homicides and triangulated with studies on the share involving firearms. We adopted a historical counterfactual lens: did gun violence rise after the musical subculture emerged, adjusting qualitatively for confounding shocks such as policing, economic shifts, criminal-market restructuring and weapons flows.

Findings
Across all five settings, no evidence was found that the appearance or popularity of the music preceded or caused measurable increases in gun homicide. In every instance, gun violence either predates the music or co-varies with structural shocks unrelated to music: poverty, criminal-market reconfiguration, institutional weakness, police lethality, cross-border gun trafficking and policy swings. Censorship of musical content did not reduce violence where tried. However, community-level prevention, focused policing reforms and firearms supply controls, performed better.

Interpretation
Music reflects and monetises the societies that produce it. Treating songs as a cause of shootings confuses representation with mechanism, and risks counter-productive censorship. Violence is driven not by artistic expression but by structural determinants: poverty, weapon availability, institutional fragility, and social inequality. Policy should focus on violence interruption, case-clearance capacity, cross-border gun flows and economic opportunity, not content bans.

  1. “we used total homicides…”

Another study that uses the ‘generic’ term that stand alone doesn’t mean anything. If they were to focus on ‘murder homicide’ and these do called ‘artists’ and their intentional use of ‘violence’ in their lyrics instead of the ‘music’ and a generic use of the term ‘homicide’ they would have discovered why there are “frequently claims that certain musical genres spur gun violence.”

  2. The thing no one wants to talk about as they blame politics, video games, and inanimate objects:

Objectives: Mass m-u-r-d-e-r is associated with a lifetime history of substance use. We aimed to examine c-a-n-n-a-b-i-s involvement among those who committed mass s-h-o-o-t-i-n-g-s in the United States from 1900 to 2019.

Conclusion: C-a-n-n-a-b-i-s use may be harmful in subgroups of individuals (eg, those who committed mass s-h-o-o-t-i-n-g-s) who are vulnerable to c-a-n-n-a-b-i-s use. This should be considered by policymakers, individuals with commercial interests, the public, and mental health and medical professionals when they debate related public health issues.

  5. Illegal alien, illegal gun, illegal shooting – but let’s blame Trump!

“Radical Islamic extremism is following the same pattern it always has — and this latest D.C. National Guard attack proves it. An illegal-alien extremist, armed with a gun he could NOT legally possess under federal law, ambushed two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C. Instead of addressing the illegal immigration failure, extremist ideology, or crime crisis in the nation’s capital, Democrats immediately blamed… Donald Trump and the National Guard.

    This video breaks down:

🔥 Why illegal aliens cannot legally obtain ANY firearm (18 USC §922(g)(5))
🔥 The political pattern of radical Islam — quiet when outnumbered, authoritarian when empowered
🔥 The global strategy of extremist groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, and the Taliban
🔥 Why the media refuses to call this what it is
🔥 The growing problem of radical Islamist ideology entering through weak immigration vetting
🔥 Why this attack had NOTHING to do with “gun violence” and EVERYTHING to do with extremist politics

We dig into the uncomfortable truth: radical IslamISM is a political, violent, expansionist ideology — not the peaceful practice of everyday Muslims. Politicians, especially Democrats, continue to protect the narrative instead of protecting Americans.

📌 If America doesn’t confront the REAL pattern behind these attacks, we will see more of them.”

  6. The Right That Government Can’t Take From You.

“We take this time during our holiday weekend to dig on the very concept of where the Second Amendment comes from. Not the Constitution itself, but the existence of the natural right of self preservation. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses an interesting and very powerful amicus brief filed in the matter of Wolford v. Lopez, that carefully examines what’s truly at stake in this never-ending battle for our God-given, natural right of self-preservation.”

Some music glamorizes the ghetto, hiphop lifestyle. While the misic might not “fuel” gang violence, the ghetto culture certainly does.

  8. FBI Director Reveals 2025 Data Shows Lowest Murder Rate in ‘Modern History’.

“FBI Director Kash Patel revealed this week that the nationwide murder rate has fallen to the ‘lowest it has been in modern history.’ Gee, it’s almost like enforcing immigration law, deporting criminals who shouldn’t be in our country, and assisting law enforcement against liberal policies in major cities cuts down on crime. Who knew? President Donald Trump did. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Results like these explain why the American people voted for Trump last November.

The FBI plans to release the official 2025 data in December, but Patel decided to give Americans an early Christmas gift by offering a positive review of the information during a Wednesday interview with the Epoch Times. And yet, liberals are still swearing up and down that Trump and his administration have accomplished nothing since he took office in January. They are literally burying their heads somewhere dark and moist—I won’t say where, but I think you can guess—while ignoring all the lives saved by simply enforcing laws already on the books.

Crime didn’t hit an all-time high because we lacked the right legislation, like oppressive gun control laws, but because leaders failed to enforce existing laws and prosecute criminals. The leftist solution to everything swells the size and scope of the federal government, ultimately intruding on the rights of law-abiding citizens. Their goal isn’t to protect Americans and increase safety. They want to increase their own power and ability to control the masses.

  9. House Oversight Drops MORE Biden Aide Testimony Showing the True Extent of the WH Cover-Up.

“President Trump has declared null and void any document signed by the [Biden] White House autopen, which turned out to be one of the entities actually in charge during those four years. This reversal does not include pardons, which can’t be reversed.

    Rep. James Comer
    @RepJamesComer
    🚨🚨🚨

I applaud President Trump for deeming President Biden’s autopen actions NULL AND VOID.

The House Oversight Committee recently exposed how the Biden Autopen Presidency is one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history. As Americans witnessed President Biden’s decline with their own eyes, Biden’s inner circle sought to deceive the public, conceal his condition, and take unauthorized executive actions using the autopen—actions that are now invalid. The House Oversight Committee delivered crucial transparency, and now President Trump and his administration are delivering accountability.
